How is this possible? Ad says 'Brand New' but car has 17" wheels, no rear wiper, no central headrest. So about 18 months old

Trading standards, anyone?

New just means you are the first owner.
I agree with that, but using the term "brand new" in my mind is downright misleading (*).

OK, it's not an issue for me as - thanks to this forum - I know lack of rear wiper and 17" wheels means it was made early 2023 or earlier. But to the old couple wandering into a dealership, probably not even knowing the Chinese own MG these days, they'd be thinking they are getting the latest vehicle... only to find it's not worth as much as they thought come resale time. I bet even the same dealer buying it back 2 years later will say that's a MY23 and not worth as much as a MY24 car :(

(*) not just my mind either... Googling "brand new vs. new" comes up with several definitions along these lines...

"'Brand new' is more about when it dates from. It has only just been opened. It has not yet had time to become in any way worn out or obsolete."

"In the phrase "brand new," it emphasizes the idea that the item is not just new but also in pristine condition, untouched and unblemished. The term has come to signify the highest quality of newness, often used in marketing to convey a sense of freshness and desirability."

When it comes to resale value people will probably look at the registration plate and milage. These will look relatively good for this car, even if it has been sitting in a field somewhere for a year before getting its first owner.

I think it's misleading to describe it as brand new. I get the impression that a lot of the heavily discounted new old stock is only available in the least popular colours such as black.

It has 10 miles on the clock so is preregistered. Great price.
Just because it has 10 miles on, it doesn't mean it's pre-registered, just means it's been moved around the site. As a rule of thumb, when the new MGs come off the transporter, they usually have between 1 and 15 miles on. I have never ever seen a car delivered to a dealer with 0 miles on.

They are driven off the boat at the docking port to the nearby storage area on trade plates and then driven onto a transporter to the dealer, so always going to have a few miles on them. Opportunity for damage too so always check carefully 😁. Also possible for 12V battery degradation if left a long time in storage 😒

What would raise a concern for me is that this car has been stored god knows where, for 18 months with an unknown SoC. Battery degradation might be an issue.
Yes, I found my "new" car had been manufactured 20 months before I got it. Seems ok although I have doubts about the 12v battery lasting. I think it comes with a 12-month warranty.
