Just planning a 200 mile trip along the M4...

Zapmap shows "Issues" at Membury and Chievely, both strategically placed for my Route plan.

So to check, I have telephoned Ecotricity and asked whether these pumps are working. Membury East bound has had several charges today, and Chievely has had a single charge today.

Thus, is Zapmap our friend or foe? Its too easy for an Electric Warrior to rubbish a network, and its up to US to report on successful charges as well as failed ones.

At least with Ecotricity there is a phone number (01453 761455) with a live person answering, who will give a precise answer to availability..

Not a rant, but hopefully a realistic ability to check out the "real" facts.............

I hope one of these would be high up the list to be upgraded considering Ecotricity HQ is west bound. Would be good if they would publish a timeline for upgrades, as this may sway people to purchase an EV to coincide with.

The companies that run these stations have repeatedly stated that the largest amount of failures are due to the car and not the units, if they have 24/7 help line they can normally get them up and running while your on the phone, if it’s a charging unit fault and the worst problem is the plug being damaged, they do tend to be slow when an engineer needs to come out to fix it.

It’s important that people update Zap Map when they have both a successful and an unsuccessful charge. The most recent out of service report may have been added some time ago and the unit fixed since, so it’s important to also look at the most recent charge date. If it’s after the most recent out of service report, the unit could be ok.

After my checking with Ecotricty diectly about the state of the Membury CCS pump, I arrived and another car was using it. The lady in question managed a 69% charge before the pump failed.

During my wait for her to move on, I used the 7kw charger for 30 minutes, which gave me enough charge to reach Chievely. There I managed full charge.

A Tesla pulled up as I was about to leave, and asked me about the CCS I was using. He showed me an adaptor which allows the Tesla to use the CCS connector. So WTF can't CCS have a Chademo adaptor...Would make a lot of people happy.

Also to add that the Ecotricity pump at Cobham services was working well. So 2 out of 3 were good.....

Out of 5 charges at Ecotricity, only one pump was out of order as written above.

2 pumps were not being used when I arrived, (Chievely and Cobham), and three were being used. One had a queue of one, so I had to wait an hour before being able to charge. Thought struck me how do we know if there are other cars waiting, and are there before you. Could lead to a bit of aggression if no system to know.

With luck, the Ecotricity network will be modified later this year.

Also I have made a note on Zapmap for others to have some advance knowledge.
