Morning All,

Being somewhat middle aged now i value space & versatility over performance :D and am considering the next car.
this popped into my options list:
new-e-berlingo (the XL version) as quite a nice size / versatility, but the battery seems quite small.

Anyone know if there are any such mini vans on the horizon with larger batteries?

I dont want a crossover or "full fat" van. The Nissan env200 was a nice early market model but now discontinued.

that berlingo XL with a 80-100kWh battery would be ideal!

I think weight is the issue here, a very large battery would reduce the payload too much for a van. I think if you need the range you'd get from 100kWh battery you'll have to wait for a different chemistry, solid batteries have a higher density.

A good point, I was hoping as these are really small utility vans rather than full works vans that the loadable payload wouldnt factor in, but you're prob right

The fact these are all still ICE chassis refactored also doesnt help as the space wasnt designed for batteries

Is this for passengers or cargo?

What about the Scenic or similar?

Would an MPV fit the bill? https://www.topgear.com/car-news/el...ric-mpvs-spearheading-family-chariot-comeback

I expect there will be plenty of Chinese MPVs coming.

BYD?
At Everything Electric I snapped a small BYD cargo van with £11,995 on it.

I assume it was this one:
BYD TRUCK ETP 3

Only a 45kWh LFP battery so even smaller than the berlingo, but maybe they will bring out a bigger one at some point.

Given they are all about LFP battery I doubt it would get much bigger though, for the reason suggested above by Gary.

Thanks some great ideas there.
If that byd price is real then that could be a good option and then a hatchback to move the kids about.

I suspect some of those mpvs would be good but they all seem in the premium price bracket, but one to watch I think, hopefully something next year might pop into the market.

I think it was the ex-VAT price, on the assumption it would be companies buying it. Add 20% on if you are not buying for a business.

Still a bargain though isn't it! LFP battery should be good for mega milage as well.

The eTourneo isn't, it's a ground up design. The ICE/hybrid baby Tourneo is based on the VW Caddy platform, the pure electric one is 100% Ford (and looks nothing like the others).

The Berlingo and its Peugeot and Vauxhall stablemates are superb. I had two of the diesel / semi automatic people carriers and loved them. Great to drive and very economical - 55/60 mpg with the 1600 engines. The later 1500 are apparently more frugal but I’m interested in a EV version too. The latest iterations are quoted with 212 mile ranges. Maybe a bit less for the longer ones. I’ve enquired about VtL but it’s not available apparently- possibly next year?

Just noticed on EV database there is a Toyota van.

It’ll be a superb van as it’s a clone of the Citroen/ - Peugeot / Vauxhall vans / mpvs.
I’m pretty keen on one of them as the range is getting better (up to 212 miles) but they still don’t have a vehicle to load ability.

I had been planning to replace my 'van' (actually an old Honda Jazz) with a small electric van this year. I only use it if I go fishing/flying rc planes and getting horse feed/bedding so it only does 2-3k miles a year so any fuel savings would be wiped out by the VED coming in on vans, so I'll just run it into the ground.
