Every possible fault when sitting in driver's seat

I think I've seen this problem mentioned here before but can't find the old thread. It's now happened three times: I sit in driver's seat, the car turns on, every possible fault is displayed and the cars refuses to switch to drive or reverse. The only solution is to leave, lock the car and come back later. Should I be worried? This has happened only when it was below -10 celsius.

If by every possible error you mean it starts listing all the driver assistance systems failing, it happened to me few times at -4 Celsius. It listed about 10 things not functioning, one by one, giving me enough time to read each one, felt like a minute.

In my case the car had 1cm of snow and ice, on the radar and on the windshield.

After the heating defrosted the windshield, it allowed me to drive it. Took about 2 minutes extra. And 15ish minutes later it had cleared up the rest, while driving. I don't think it would have been safe or legal to drive the car in any case, so for me, this was a positive behavior.

Again in my case it was only driver assistance systems, nothing critical. No oil, no tire pressure, no electrical faults.

Could be a problem with the 12V battery. Low voltage can put all sorts of stuff into an error state.

This has happened to me in all weather conditions and, to me, is associated with a slow, even no, infosystem boot. I press the Home button to restart the infosystem, power down the car from the safety screen and then press the brake pedal. I've never needed to get out of the car and lock/unlock.

Same here. It's been happening to me as well lately; I think I'm just getting cocky with the speed of my start-up routine, and if it's a little too quick, no ready mode for you, sir.

All I have to do is press the brake pedal and it goes to ready.

[ Edit: Later posts indicate that the faults are not presented by fault lamps, rather by messages. So the below is probably not relevant now. ]
The situation with all the fault icons showing is what they used to call "lamp test". That way, you get to find out at the start of every drive (if you can be bothered watching) that no "lamp" (these days LEDs of course) has blown. If a "lamp" blows, you might not be alerted to a dangerous situation.

Even old ICE cars before modern electronics used to have this, though they usually only had a few lamps: oil, ignition, and maybe high beam. The lamp test was performed with the clever use of switch and relay contacts.

The only time this happens on mine is if I catch the brake pedal as I get in, so effectively pressing the brake before the system has booted up fully.
My routine now is to get in and let the infotainment screen finish booting up before pressing the brake.

Mine occasionally scrolls through a number of warning messages which come up quickly and then disappear just as quickly. As long as I'm patient the screen has always returned to normal for me (with all warnings gone) and I can then press the brake pedal, get into Ready mode and then get into 'D' or 'R'.

I think not having the seatbelt plugged in or the drivers door left ajar can also prevent D or R being selected ?

The software start-up procedure on mine seems to vary from being pretty quick, to having to wait a while for either the above or the infotainment screen to boot-up fully from scratch.

As said above I wait for everything to boot-up before pressing the brake pedal and then a further few seconds before plugging my phone in for Apple CarPlay.

Sounds like the same issue.

Rebooting infotainment with home button does not help, all the faults will just pop up again. I will check the status of 12V battery next time. I don't remember having trouble with pushing the brake prematurely. If I had to wait for the lazy-ass infotainment to boot up fully before driving off every time, I'd be very unhappy. The only fault I ever get with delayed infotainment boot is Autohold Fault.

@hharzel, rebooting the Infosystem does not always clear the errors. You say you leave the car; my suggestion is to power down the car from the safety tab as these works for me rather than leaving the car.

Did it to me with the driving aids..just have to drive old style for awhile and they go as car warms up..

Its happened to me several times, including air bag failures and all sorts of things that shouldn't be failing, temperature was irrelevant as it has happened during the winter and the summer. They always seem to clear themselves and the dealer didn't find anything (or if they did they didn't tell me) when they serviced it.
