Hello. My wife collected her ZS EV today from the garage and it hardly had any range in it. Came home at 2030 to plug in, four hours later it’s only charging at 1.9kw/h. It’s a pod point solo 3 (7kw). No timers or anything on, I’ve also gone out and made sure the cable isn’t coiled up. Is it going this slow as it’s the first charge, are we doing something wrong, or is the charger knackered?

Help!

Sounds like the EVSE ("charger") is set low, like 7A (@240V) instead of 7kW. The car can charge at 6.6kW.

It's probably a trivial fix, just flip some "dip switches", if you're so inclined:

I've only skimmed that post, there may be better ones. Your Podpoint should be wired to its own 40A breaker in your switchboard. If so, it will be safe to set the Podpoint maximum to 30 or 32A.

Is this the first time you’ve used the charger? Have you seen it charging at 6-7kw before?
I’ve seen a lot of posts on other forums about newly installed PodPoint chargers charging at low speeds due to some setting that is wrong in the charger, probably what is posted above.

I do find it very strange that the dealer would allow you to pick up your new car with a low SOC ?????.
Do you have a public A/C charger close by ?.
If so, trying charging from another post.
That will eliminate any problems with the car at least.
I makes me suspicious that they is not charge the car before collection though ?.
Poor that !.
It’s like supplying a new petrol car with only a gallon of fuel in the tank !.

That was our fault, to be honest. They were going to delay us doing the handover a day or so because they had so many, but we insisted on yesterday when we knew they’d be rushing it out.

I'm not sure if your podpoint monitors the total current you are using but I have heard that some chargers reduce the charging rate if you start cooking dinner or using something else that uses a lot of power.

Some wall boxes have a “Load Balancing” function, that will throttle back the power down from the wall box if demand is high in the house.
It will ramp up the current again, when the demand in the house falls back.
The house is always given priority over the wall box IF your unit has a “Load Balancing” feature.

That's what I was trying to say but I couldn't think of the correct way to say it, cheers.
