My first impressions of the MGZSEV.

I'm a bit disappointed with the dealership where I bought the car from, immediately the moment I signed for the car they lost interest in me and I feel quite let down with them. No serious issues just a lack of information and explanation regarding the purchase and follow up. No instruction manual, service document or advise on how to set the car up with things like the MG ismart software. Anyway this does not detract from my enjoyment of the car.

I picked up a 72 plate Trophy Connect last Friday and drove it 100 miles home. After playing with the charger that night it was fully charged in the morning and we then drove 70 miles or so to Scarborough for the night and then on the Sunday back home a different route of about 100 miles. Monday into work and back home and then I plugged it in that night to charge it up again.
This is when I fell fowl of the max charge setting that some of you have posted about, I set it to 80% but not taking into account the 30% in there already when I came to the car the next morning it was fully charged again to 100% :) .

Lesson learnt and next time do the Maths. I was still on the Flexible tariff from Octopus because I struggled to pair the charger to Octopus but on my last charge last nigh I followed the instructions for the third time and finally set up the charger to Intelligent Octopus Go, so that is one more thing sorted out.

The car drives and responds great, I'm getting used to the quirks of Eco, Normal or Sport and KERS 1,2 & 3 :) and I'm genuinely enjoying owning it and driving it.

I can't connect with ismart but that is a First World problem in the big scheme of things.

I have been discussing the car with colleagues in the office and as explained to them I can't see any reasons why I would ever go back to a normal Diesel/Petrol car and even if for some catastrophic reason this car is not the one I'll keep I would definitely get another MGZS, it ticks nearly every box on my required list for a new car.

One minor niggle would be the storage in the front, I thought there was poor storage in the Insignia but there is less in the MGZS I have no real place to put small things like glasses, pens and such. There is the glove box and the centre console but they missed the opportunity to put a storage near my right Knee.

The learning continues :)

Hello Rob & Welcome!
I too have a ZS EV but an Exclusive 20 plate.
I bought it before the pandemic and as a consequence of that and som personal mobility issues, haven’t driven it much but I still love owning it.
I too wouldn’t buy anything else except if I get the wherewithal, an update to a newer model.
I have a Zappi 2 charger (no app with my car) and it’s perfect and future proof when I decide to get Solar.
I have minor problems with my dealership - things like not listening to me when they service it and I say I have a duff carpet post etc.
Fed up with asking for a service checklist/log when they hand it back and last time it took three of the staff to ‘unpark’ the car!
Apart from that all is well.
Might need a new 12v battery though…not using it so much seems to drain it but I know it’s because it’s not in ready mode for very long each week. 12v is charged from the drive train battery rather than a generator like an ICE car.
Need to get my trickle charger to sort that one out!
Happy EV-ing ?

Congratulations ! Instruction manual is online and I would recommend reading it fully. This forum will help with most issues, use search function and few keywords to find relevant discussion. iSmart will connect, it took mine a week or so to get going... Relax, don't stress to much and enjoy ...
As to dealers - salesman just want your money, same with all dealers ...

If you'd set the max charge to 80% then it should stop at 80%.

Welcome to the club.
I have a 22 LR trophy from new & find the ismart well worth connecting to. The ability to remotely warm & defrost or cool down the car are very helpful.
Also helpful for seeing charging progress, both rapids away and home charging.
Make sure the previous owner or sales company aren't bound to it. (They need to 'unbind' before you can bind.)

I agree.
Unless it was a standard range model with the LFP battery and not the long range model with the NMC battery, then if standard range model, it would just charge to 100% SOC.
This will happen every single time it is plugged in to collect a charge, regardless of the present SOC.

Thank you

Somebody else pointed that out to me but unfortunately have now been abandoned by the sales team.

Their Service centre manager phoned me and promised to look into it but no joy there either.

I'll give it a week or two and then I'll contact my local MG dealership and ask them to look into it.

It is the Long range model or at least I hope it is because that is what I paid for :)

It is the long range one, when I start after a full charge it tells me there is 270miles and I have had 300 on one occasion before I started driving.

Might be worthwhile doing a search on this site for unbinding the car as my memory isn't great. There has already been much written about it. There used to be a very friendly & conscientious dealer who had a contact at MG and could help, but they no longer can. I remember there was information on how to contact MG themselves in the posts(email or tel no.??).
From memory it involved sending evidence you own the car (Ie log book/receipt) & they then unbind the car on thier servers.

Thank you
Rob

I got mine second hand and couldn't bind for a couple of weeks or so, emailed customer services (they will want your V5 details) and they checked and confirmed it was not bound to anyone. Took another week or so and it all happened by itself when I tried binding next time ...
