Based on my experiments it seems that braking does not use regen in itself...is that other peoples view?
Different kers setting impacts the regen but for example if on kers 1 and then use the brake it seems to be capped at a lower level, kers 2 a slightly higher level etc..

My previous leaf, eNiro and e up all increase regen by significant amount when breaking and no 'cap' as such when using the brake regardless of regen setting.

Taking your foot off the accelerator will start the regen process depending on what level you have set, level 3 will be the harshest 2 lower and 1 lower still. pressing the brake pedal has not effect on regen, you will slow down as you are applying the friction brakes. I cruise control the regen is not used at all but the brakes are automatically applied to govern speed and slow you down.

It would be good if breaking contributed to some regeneration but I personally don't mind, I use regen 3 and that works quite well for me, like a gentle one-pedal driving . What is a bit of a shame is that the car uses brakes in cruise control mode instead of "engine" but that is due to safety I guess ... realistically, brakes regen in addition to whatever system MG uses now would not contribute that much extra energy that would be worth paying for as a consumer and manufacturer ... Using regen 3 instead of 1 or 2 with extra breaking will save on brake pads too ...?

The ZS is an EV adaptation of an ICE platform so the braking & regen systems are not integrated. I recall reading that the next gen will be based on the MG4 platform so that should have proper integration.

Shame on the lack of regenerative braking. As mentioned even our little VW e up has proper full regen braking and Niro. Both based on ICE models

Personally it doesn't bother me. I rarely use ACC and KERS3 is enough for mostly one pedal driving.
Any gains in efficiency from extra regen would be offset by the cost of replacing rear brake discs that have corroded from lack of use (I'm looking at you Ampera/Volt....).
