I am about to charge my MG5 PFL for the first time on my granny charger. Thought it would be sensible to look at the online manual.

On Page145 Home Charging - it states:-

"During the charging operation the vehicle power system must be OFF"

fair enough BUT it goes on to state in BOLD TYPE:-

"If at any time during the charging process you should want to check the state of charge, please switch the vehicle power system to the ON position. The high voltage battery state of charge will be displayed in the message centre in the instrument pack"

Am I missing something? Do you have the power ON or OFF during charging?

For my ZS EV Mark 1, I just press the close doors button on the key fob, and read the SoC through the closed window. Opening the door causes the charge to be interrupted and the charge cable to unlock. The dash says it's still charging, but it's not. It resumes charging 10-20 seconds later, locking the charge cable again, but I prefer not to interrupt the charge if possible.

It's possible that the MG5 operates differently.

It certainly doesn't cause the cable to unlock on a 5 if the car isn't locked and you just open the door.

If the car is locked and the key out of range, by pressing the unlock button on the door the SOC will appear on the screen. Doesn't interupt the charge that way - or unlock the car.

Even easier if FL MG5 is the MG iSmart App. Select Battery status screen & all is revealed + estimated end time. This you can do from any location ... garden/house etc.
