Hello
I am going to order a MG ZS and I am not able to have a wall box fitted so charge my PHEV with a granny charger on a timer socket to us off peak electricity. If there any out there doing the same to charge there ZS can you preheats there can in winter when on the charger. I know it can be done on a wall box but how much power does it take.

I asked a similar question a while back, see

Answer is yes but you do it through the ismart app. It isn't automatically done, you manually turn on the window demister with the heater turned up high.
You get ten minutes so if it is very cold switch it on twice starting about half an hour before you want the car.

I use granny charger for overnight cheap tariff and 5 hours charge gives me about 30% charge (about 60 miles) on standard range ZS Trophy. I haven't tried heating up the cabin whilst on charger - by the time I need it warm, the charge finished at 5 AM. Anyway, heating is instant in ZS EV as there is no engine to warm up for 5 min so I wouldn't worry about that, especially not in English weather

I was think how much I would get between 12.30 and 5.30 AM, at what % do you charge your car and do you do it to 100%

Mine is British Gas tariff midnight to 5 AM, 7p per kWh. The charger is set to 13A and charges on average at 2.6 kW so it comes to abut 13 kWh charge for 5 hours. That tops up 30% battery that for me adds about 60 miles range costing £1.50.

I charge 2-3 times a week like this and that keeps the car between 40%-70% battery charge.

I charge to 100% once every 6 weeks or so to balance the battery from about 10-20% to 100% and that from memory takes almost 11 hours on slow charge.

The only other time I charge to 100% is when I go on a longer journey which is not that often.
