Hi you know what I’m not bothered really, it’s not just about fuel and charging costs, only this week again the cost of petrol has increased and it will not come down again you can bet on that, the money I have saved since I got my MG5 beggars to be believed, it’s just about to go for it’s first service next month for next to nothing from what I have read, my last car a Skoda Superb estate 2.0 TDi I had for 5/6 years and it was serviced every 12 months the lowest bill for that was around £325 average around £425 and the last one was over was going to be around £1400 for the service a cam belt and a water pump no chance, it’s gone. Got the 5 which is no where near as big, but drives just as nice is quieter and costs a hell of a lot less to run, so as I said I’m not really bothered Im never ever going back to ICE vehicles.

We have owned an EV for about 2 years now, because we aim to charge as much as possible via the solar panels the only "fuel" cost is about £5 when we went to Windsor.

As we were putting in the region of £90 per month in the diesel car that is over £2000 saved. True we have driven less since Covid but you can offset that with lower insurance, servicing, tax and increasing fuel cost it's not far out.

I'm sticking £250/month Diesel in the daily + £25 road tax. This covers 90% of my monthly payments to purchase the EV. My electricity costs will need to escalate significantly or a new road taxing scheme to be introduced before I'm not making a saving by being EV instead of ICE. My hope is that I can benefit from the savings long enough to break even on my purchase, whilst the goings good as I'm usually late to the party on most things!

My local Tesco has 50KW ccs charger which is free to use. 1 hour charging in the evening twice a week is enough to keep me on the road. No more149p/litre at Tesco petrol station down the road.

My mistake 55kw does charge 27p from podpoint account. you are correct that 7kw and 22kw is free. Charging at work is free at the moment.

Reading the article I would just love to know where they get their figures from?

"April's energy price cap hike will make running an electric car between £150 and £200-a-year more expensive."

A complete "finger in the air" what would look right in the article the the writers view. I don't pay £150 a year full stop let alone costing £150 more. It depends how much you charge at home or work or how much on roadside chargers. As I have said I have solar panels at home and have not detected any increase in electricity use as shown by my Scottish Power usage data, last year 3925KWh, the year before 4085KWh
