Investment opportunity

Could the MG4 be described as a modern peoples car, the 1st mass produced electric car which is affordable (?) like a modern Ford Model T . As such would any one think of buying one to put into mothballs in a cossetted private garage to pass on to future generations as an investment and legacy . An early 2022 version , low or no mileage with all those well documented faults could be the way to go , and as Henry said, any colour as long as its orange. Or would the other threads on this forum disagree and champion their choices. Other brands may also be in with a shout but miss out on the affordability factor.

It would be interesting as an experiment. You watch programmes where they revive an ICE car using penetrating oil, new plugs, battery, fuel etc. and with a cough and splutter it comes alive.
Roll forward into the future. They try a barn find MG EV, stick in a new 12v battery (now the size of a Mars bar) and no matter how much juice they feed it the computer says no..... then they plug in a new EV HV battery the size of a handbag and hey presto 1000 miles of range but still the same problems, flaky bluetooth connection, the screen goes black, LKA stays on and you get locked in whilst the reduction gearbox oil seeps around the car...and the 12v battery still goes flat.... ah memories of the good old days.

They then try a Tesla but the plastic crumbles ?

I don't think so but I get really annoyed at my brother cos he has a Tesla model Y performance and I'm like the black sheep cos I have the MG4. Inside his is just cheap plastic and a first generation iPad to control everything! Can't even get android auto or Apple car play in his Tesla! And all he bangs on about is the charging network!!!

I think any car can become collectable if it's found in good condition after 30+ years...look at how much MK1 and MK2 escorts go for when you could buy them for £100 with tax and test in the early 90s!!

I had the last XR2 to leave the production line. I should have kept it! I also see that its successor, my Peugeot 306 GTi6, is now regarded as a classic car in some quarters. I fed that to the scrappage scheme for £2,000 at 120,000 miles.

I think any car can become collectable if it's found in good condition after 30+ years...look at how much MK1 and MK2 escorts go for when you could buy them for £100 with tax and test in the early 90s!!

In the late 60's and early 70's E Type Jags were sent through the auctions with no reserve and would go for £100.
I like the idea of the MG4 becoming collectable but I don't think I'll be around to see it and I haven't enough room to store it so my nieces could use it as a retirement fund.

I loved my XR2… same 0-60 as the MG…

Although I may be wrong I would not imagine myself or any one else on this forum to have the space or even financial resources to be able to gamble on such a venture , but some have regretted losing cherished cars ( and motor bikes ) and seeing their values raise to eyebrow raising levels have thought , what if. In this case with the MG4s profile as being a disrupter and game changer, from over enthusiastic you tubers ( the new way to advertise and sell cars ) would that give it extra desirability in future classic markets , and as such for an enterprising individual be a viable consideration. (I,m looking at you Robert Llewelyn )

You would be better off taking that money and locking it away in a high interest account. You will not make money on a MG4 tucked away. It's not a Delta Integrale.

The only time I could see it being worth it is when they're worth about 3p and you can buy it cheap and store it cheap.
