Thought this experience might be of interest for some of the community.
Yesterday I was one of the many hundreds of frustrated drivers sitting on the M61/M6 around Preston. In my case that was for 8 hours, finally getting off at Preston around 10pm. What interested me about this otherwise dismal experience was that the car consumed only 3% of the battery during that period covering the 4 miles between M61 Junction 9 & M6 Junction 31 at Preston. I did consciously try to manage consumption by switching off A/C, other than occasional use to clear the windscreen, and used the heated seat function when it started to cool once the sun set. This was the first time I'd given serious consideration to the battery capacity, but the car acquited itself admirably. This situation arose mainly down to my niave planning, leaving the house with only 32% charge and asuming that I would plug in once I'd reached my destination. On a more positive note, it drives home the point that BEV ownership is much cheaper than ICE, lord knows how much diesel & petrol the other drivers consumed, particularly those HGV's alongside me during this period, I'm guessing it would be a worringly expensive number.
The reason we all spent far too much time sitting & waiting, a diesel spill following an HGV accident requiring the entire carriageway to be re-surfaced. Let's hope hauliers go electric sooner rather than later.
