Sorry for the question which I’m sure has been asked tonnes of times. But is a standard MG4 only capable of AC charging at a maximum rate of 6-7kW?

My missus car charges at that rate at home, which is fine as it’s only a 7kW charger, but we had it on a 21kW unit out and about earlier this week and it would still only charge at (I think) 6.4kW. Is it not capable of receiving more on a Type2?

Depends on the version of the car. The phase 1(2022/2023) cars are capable of 11kW on a 3 phase AC charge, later cars max out at 7kW

Most versions of the MG4 have a single phase 6.6kW onboard charger, so that's the maximum it'll deliver. Remember also that the charger output is also powering other ancillary loads like topping up the 12V battery and computer modules.

As per above, early Long Range cars had an 11kW 3-phase onboard charger, but this is irrelevant given that your profile says you have an SE SR.

Thanks guys. Yer its a standard model, so 6kwh max then regardless of if you use your home charge or a beefy instavolt!

You know when you're using a DC rapid charger, as you need to pull out the rubber bung from the bottom 2 pins in the car's charge port else the plug won't fit. ;)
