I've just signed up for a MG service plan, so I thought I'd check out the included MG Assist (which is provided by AA).
I looked at the AA website information and discovered this about their app:
"It's OK when you've got the AA app in your pocket
Report a breakdown quickly and track when your patrol will arrive
Report a claim with Accident Assist – whoever you're insured by
See your cover and membership details at a glance"
I'm guessing that "Report a breakdown quickly" means that the app would send your location to the AA - which would be good news.
So I tried to set up the app and it asks for my account number - which I don't have.
I then started an online chat with AA:
We bought a new car last year and the deal included AA recovery. I'm now trying to set up your app but I don't have the account number.

Unfortunately since your membership is not directly with us , you do not have the app access
If you wish I can help you with the level of cover you have ?

With Roadside, At Home, National Recovery and Onward Travel. This means, the cover will start from right outside your front door and will cover you anywhere else in the UK. If we can't fix the vehicle at the roadside, we will take yourself, the vehicle and up to 7 passengers to any single UK destination of your choice. For 3 times in a membership year, we can also arrange for 72hrs consecutive car hire subject to the supplier’s terms and conditions, or for one nights paid accommodation or public transport if the vehicle cannot be promptly repaired.

Can I upgrade it so that I can use the app?
You - 7:02 PM
Unfortunately we cannot upgrade for the app access

1) do I have an account number with you?
2) who is my membership with?
You - 7:13 PM
There is no membership number for your cover.
MG ASSISTANCE - MGF

I then looked at the AA website for details about coverage direct from them...
Basic "Roadside Assistance" which includes unlimited callouts is £72 a year.
Add in "At Home", "National Recovery" and "Onward Travel" : £165.44 a year.
Apart from the unlimited callouts I'm getting all of that included with the MG service plan.
Very good news!
(But it's a shame about not being able to use the app.)
