MG iSMART issues

Edit: I just looked out and saw that the car had started charging again after I had turned the AC off. I didn't expect that!
The car scheduler can't be relied on with a plug & charge home charger setup in my experience. It likes to charge outside of the schedule. I emailed MG customer service about this but got referred to dealer. I don't expect the dealer will be able to do anything but I'm keeping a list of issues they can pass on when I see them. I would suggest also doing the same and contacting your dealer so these software issues can be reported through the "proper channels" which apparently is not MG customer service directly. I'm not really sure what the purpose of them having that email is.

I agree! The previous couple of times I tried the scheduler it started charging before it should. I kept an eye on it this time and it behaved as it should.

My iSmart for Android set up & bound quickly & easily on 2022 ZS EV Essence. Was all good for a few days, then suddenly:

Would not run without needing a password again, then wouldn’t accept the original pw (which hadn’t changed). Then tried to ask for a new password, but this needed the original verification code (I no longer have this & have no idea how to retrieve).

Next I uninstalled & reinstalled the app & tried to set up under a different email account but the agreement checkbox would not check despite all the fields being correctly completed …

Have written to MG customer service but am still none the wiser. PITA.

In the UK you need to ask your dealer to contact MG to unbind the car from your account. I assume it's the same in Australia.

Thanks, but I don’t see this a related to binding, that can be unbound in the car settings. This is an email account login problem.

So can you unbind the car from your account?
As far as I understand it the car has an account with MG's servers. When you bind your phone to the car in actual fact you are accessing its account on MG's servers, you are not connecting to the car directly. For security there can only be one email (or phone number) and password which accesses that account with the verification code as two step authentication.

It is definitely not the "bind". That is only a term for linking the car to your account. Nothing more nothing less. Once set up the car communicates to the server at one end, your account from the other end and the original set up just handshakes them I.e "bind". Sounds like something has went wrong at the MG server account end. Writing to MG is the correct route potentially but they may want the request via your dealer. Be interesting to see how they resolve this without either resetting the password and informing you accordingly or somehow re-enabling your existing. Good luck.

And yes only one email can be used for an active car account. Resetting the account link (bind) has to be done at MG end through a dealer request (think trade in car). I don't think a customer can request it directly yet tbh. You maybe able to do something in car settings but I don't think that this enables new QR code generation ?

You're right, thx. Went I went to 'unbind' in the car settings, this only redirected me to the app again.
