I bought an MG space saver wheel with jack from MG but I cannot see where the jack fits. The manual on page 232 says "Note that the domed head of the jack must fit into the corresponding recess in the sill plate (There is a triangle indicator ...)".

The jack has no doomed head and I cannot see anything special pointed to by the triangle on the sill (rear left). All there is is the thin vertical lip where the sill joins and a long (car length) recess between sill edge and mentioned lip. The jack fits in this recess but started creaking when jacking so I stopped and now there is a small indentation on the underside of the sill. Glad I didn't go all the way and stopped.

I can only think it's the thin lip between the two notches.

Any ideas?

Pics attached.

Through trial and error I tried it on that lip between the notches and it worked. I've no idea what the domed head of the jack is nor the corresponding recess.

The space saver wheel and jack came with car ('71 LR Exclusive) from new.

Also check the tyre pressure of the space saver tyre; mine was 27psi, should be 60psi.

How did you get on with the jacking point?

The “head” of the jack, in the photo, looks too shallow to fit over the ridge? Obviously it is the correct jack but just wondered how you got on?

Fine, but I'm not convinced it's the correct jack as described in the manual. The jack and wheel were purchased from the MG dealer so I suspect it's just a common jack one gets from any motorist retail outlet. The jack is the same as any I've had with all cars I've had.

Thank you!

I have the official space saver pack too and my jack looks the same.
It's only rated at 1300kg.
