Not an MG
Hello all.

I am debating wether to purchase a MG MG5 52.5kWh Exclusive Auto 5dr 2021 with 45k miles on the clock.

I have not owned an electric car before so a little apprehensive so thought I would ask the experts!!

The quoted mileage is 214 on a full charge. My main requirement is to get to and from work which is 60 miles round trip so no issue there but I also go to Devon a lot which is around 145 miles each way.

Am I realistically going to be able to make the journey down the M5 for this distance with the smaller 52.5 kWh battery?

Also, with 45k miles on the clock, would this have reduced the battery life so the distance would be dramatically reduced??

Silly questions I know but don’t want to invest in a car that I later regret purchasing.

Separate note, is there anything to look out for when viewing the car?

Thank you all in advance.

John

Your energy consumption will vary dependant on a number of factors. Have a look at my discussion on real world data to see what a standard range Mk1 can do:

If it was used as a taxi there will be no warranty left. If it has an MOT it almost certainly was used as a taxi. If it wasn't used as a taxi, make sure the service schedule was kept to, otherwise no free AA cover.

I have a mg5 sr2021 and have done 200 miles from full to empty with 2% remaining mainly motorway from Dudley to Manchester and back to Hilton services . Done 145 ISH miles over two weeks all short trips recently and plugged in with 20% remaining tonight. My car has done 44000 miles battery health was 98% at last service hope that answers or helps with some of the questions you had. I've had a few faults occur from owning over the last 15 months but all covered under warranty and generally a good car

Another dudley starting point here.
Dudley to gridserve in Norwich, 176 miles and 11% left.
Averaged 55mph over the trip as some 40mph sections were in place, plus it's mostly A road.

I've done a few 140mile stints with 30% left, once to York and once to Bournemouth - well to the charging stations.
All manner of weather across the trips from 10°C to rain and 15°C.

Just be aware that driving on a motorway at 70-75 mph significantly reduces your range. If you are happy pootling along at 55-65 mph you won’t have a problem. Cold temperatures also impact range, particularly below 7-8C.

I would make sure it’s been serviced in accordance with the schedule so the warranty is still in place and also HV battery state of health.

If you are planning to charge at home make sure you are on a cheap overnight tariff.
