MG Pilot Speed Limiter defaults to 'off' at every car 'Start'/'Ready' power on

This might be a daft question, but on my MG5, the MG Pilot Speed Limiter turns itself off every time the car is powered off. This means that at the start of each trip, I have to go into the Vehicle settings and set it back on. Every. Time. And it is not a setting that is accessible whilst driving.

Is this something other people experience? Have I missed a completely obvious setting somehere, thus displaying both my ignorance and incompetance?

In my opinion, flicking the MG Pilot Cruise Control/Speed limit stalk away from me should automatically turn off the Cruise Control and enable the Speed Limiter. If you want more positive confirmation that the Speed Limiter is required, require the button on the end of the stalk to be pressed to start it.

Resetting it to the extent you need to go into the Vehicle settings EVERY TIME you start the car strikes me as a strange design choice.

Yes, well, on my previous EV, there was a button on the steering wheel that switched between Cruise Control and Speed Limit mode, with a separate 'Set' button that activated the selected function.
(That was the basics, there was a lot of extra functionality 'hidden away' behind buttons where a short press or a long press had different meanings - it became pretty much second nature to me).

It appears that more attention to details/functionality was used on ‘popular’ modes, i.e ACC.
If you don’t mind me asking, what would you use the speed limiter function for exactly as I never found a need for it?

I do a lot of driving in 30 km/h zones, and speeding fines are not cheap where I live. It is good for my peace of mind to set the car to a limit of 30 km/h and concentrate on the road in front of me, being aware of pedestrians (who often don't hear my approach), people on e-scooters, bikes and e-bikes and other cars (on very winding single track roads with passing places). The brisk throttle response and lack of engine noise makes it more difficult to ensure my speed is below 30 km/h without looking at the speedometer often otherwise. When I drove a fossil-fuelled car, the sound of the engine revs gave me good feedback. For good or ill, you don't get that in an EV.

In addition, most long-distance country roads here are 80 km/h, and that is enforced pretty strictly. I use the Cruise Control for that, but it's useful to flip to the Speed Limiter for the mandatory 50 km/h for going through the villages - after a long time driving at 80 km/h, it's far too easy to let your speed creep up to 'normal' again.

I'm sure there are plenty of drivers who are good at determining their speed by feel (I understand Police Officers give valid evidence in cases where they state how fast they estimated a vehicle was going, and are trained to do so) - but I am not one of them. I regard Cruise Control and Speed Limiters as very useful driver aids, but I understand that not everyone feels that they need them. I know I benefit from them. Perhaps I am a bad driver because I am not instinctively 'speed-aware', but the driver aids help me be a better driver, so everyone else benefits.

But you have an MG now, those good old days are over

When you don't want to be caught speeding but still want regenerative braking.

No one's saying you should use it but it is there if you want to use it
