The way I use it is this: Auto-hold switch next to gear selector is always - always - on, orange light on the switch is on. Drive as normal, use brakes as normal, keep the brake pressed until you stop (as if there was no auto--hold at all), once stopped and you see green P lit on the dashboard, you can let go of the brake, it's like having an automatic handbrake on.
Hill start or any other start once auto-hold (green P lit) is engaged - just press the accelerator pedal and drive off ...
I never use "P" Parking (red P lit on the dashboard) when I stop on the hill, just Auto-hold. I only use P option when I know I'll be stationary for more than a minute or so and don't need to move quickly.
One thing to note - I think it usually happens when you stop whilst going uphill or try to move too fast, haven't paid much attention - sometimes auto-hold might hold it for a slightly bit little longer once the accelerator is pressed and the car is trying to move and being held at the same time - ignore this and just keep the accelerator pressed at the same level - auto-hold will release within a second, don't panic and press the accelerator full-down (I was tempted to do it first time it happened and if you panic and accelerate uncontrollably ... people then blame the car for "hijacking" them ... ?)
It took me a bit of time to get used to ZS after my old manual diesel - to much information all at once ! You'll get used to it quickly. One thing to remember is - careful with pedals, this is a very, very quick car if you hit the accelerator hard ...
and - yes, read the manual, I have mine on my computer desktop ?
