Hi Everyone,

I've just bought the new ZS Mg ev trophy (not connect). I was told that I should be able to make calls using voice command but not do more complex things like open the sun roof (which I'm fine without). The thing is I get no response from the voice button on the steering wheel whatsoever and can't make phonecalls? Can anyone confirm if I should be able to make calls with the trophy and if so what am I doing wrong/ what do I need to do to get it working?

I presume you have set up the bluetooth so the car and phone are linked?

I bleave its a long press for your phone?
Or is that with carplay?

On our non connect Trophy ZS Standard Range the steering wheel button only activates google assistant when the phone is connected by cable to android auto, otherwise it doesn't have any functionality at all.

Same with the lr trophy. afraid you were told wrong.

The Connect version is required for any voice interactions that directly communicate with the MG in-built systems, including making phone calls.

The in-car voice recognition system uses internet based servers that are only available in the Connect version :-(

It may be possible that when Android Auto or CarPlay are active that a long press of the button on the steering wheel will activate Goggle Assistant or Siri - it does in the Connect version.

I believe you can still say “Hey Google” or “Hey Siri” to activate the voice commands of the phone when connected to the car.

Hi I had my new trophy LR delivered yesterday , if I connect the phone with a wire the voice command works , if it’s not plugged in then it’s dose not work - is that correct?

You can connect the phone using Bluetooth, but will lose Android Auto/CarPlay.

To use the voice commands with the phone connected using Bluetooth you press the voice button on the steering wheel for a couple of seconds.

Trying to use Okay Google through AA only works when the car is stationary, as soon as the wheels start turning the function stops, anyone solved this problem. Using the MG voice commands is equally rubbish along with so much of the car (ZS Trophy connect) in general.

OK Google works for me when I'm driving along.... Maybe it's the way you've got yours set up. I can either say OK Google and give it my commands, or push the voice listening button on the steering wheel then give my command and it does it.

I'd recommend you look into your settings a bit more.

Hi, Google just comes up with 'something went wrong, try again' happens with either pressing the voice listening button or saying OK Google.
I'll take your suggestion and try different settings too.
Thanks

Normally this behaviour is that you've not given Android Auto permission to use your microphone or your data connection isn't fast enough.

If you're running the car with Hello MG active, then Android Auto won't work as they don't work well together. (I know this is probably your problem as you've got a Trophy Connect and I had same issues until I found out they don't work together).

It works fine when car is stationary though?? so microphone is working ok, there seems to be a problem with the car, same phone worked fine in Audi (decent car).

Turn off Hello MG in the settings. Android Auto and Hello MG don't work together. I'm pretty sure that's your problem.

Tried turning Hello MG off and this stopped any Google voice recognition. Just going to accept its another fault that I'll have to put up with until I can get rid of it
Thanks for the help though

Hi

I've had allsorts of problems using mg voice commands on out trophy connect. Phone rings wrong contact if you update phone book, e.g. New contacted added, after initial set up, needs factory reset to get working again

Started using Android auto now but found OK Google only worked when stationery, thought I was going mad! Solved it by switching hello mg off.

Button on steering wheel still let's you control sunroof and heating etc with voice.

Hope this helps!

Success!! Turning Hello MG off while the car is moving and AA running seems to have sorted the problem, can now use OK Google while car is moving.
Now if only the handling could be sorted out with a dashboard setting...........

Thanks to @Jimny and @bryer
