hi everyone!
I was wondering if you could advise what's the real world range you're getting from from your 74kwh extended range? I'm currently driving MG5 LR and i get anywhere between 170-230 miles depending on weather, conditions etc. We're looking at upgrading, and I was thinking ID3 77kwh but I'm a bit concerned with VW battery quality, as most of the under 3 year old ID3's (Mileage all under 25k) have SOH of 90-92%, which seems bit low. My MG5 is 95% after 50k miles (I believe MG batteries are made by CATL which have a quite of a good reputation, not sure what batteries VW is using). So basically i want to make sure i'll get at least 50 extra miles per charge before we decide to go ahead and change.

It is really hard, if not impossible, to compare "real world range" between drivers. It really depends if you drive 180km/h at winter or 50km/h at summer.
If "real world range" was measurable, we would not quote WLTP.
I have an Extended Range and I drive MUUUCH longer than in my previous car. However, I have not been able to compare it to any other MG
I know it's not much help, but it really can't be done, unless you have a controlled environment (which is sort of, what WLTP is)

Thanks webhiker. I think as 'rule of thumb', at least from my experience i get 10% less (as maximum range) than WLTP, I'm quite of a "light" driver though. The below is from this morning - 90% motorway, some dual lane driving.

4.3 mpkWh is very good. Maintain that for the 100-0% battery capacity and your range would be almost 320 miles. (4.3 x 74.4)

Tbh, i don't trust this 100%. I used 28% of the battery to do 68.6 miles, therefore 68.6/28=2.45
2.45x100=245miles. Still very good result, especially since MG5 is ICE to electric conversion, not a dedicated platform, also this is 90% motorway, and the battery is 3 years/50 000miles old.

I posted elsewhere that, starting with the battery at 100%, I drove 264 miles recently with my wife as a passenger, with 16 miles range showing left when I finished. About 40% was on dual carriageway at 65mph or so. Had air con on and didn’t use any eco settings.

Perfect, thank you. 280 miles is a decent result, i would be happy with this.

Bear in mind the GOM isn't entirely linear. You'll get slightly more miles per 1% charge high up in the charging curve than you do at the bottom.
Does that mean you get more % when the battery holds more charge? I tend to agree with this, it always feels you get more miles out of first 50% then the other...

Are you extended range?

Yes, that's what I was trying to convey. It's not that marked though.

Are you extended range?

Yes, it's under his avatar if you're on a PC, or hold your phone in landscape.

I get around 280 comfortable useable miles from mine. This is 100% down to 10% and driving 1/3 town, 1/3 A roads, 1/3 motorway. Driven in sport mode and with AC on. And I drive it right up to the speed limit and don’t apply any fuel saving strategies like soft acceleration and staying off the brakes. I drive it like a petrol hot hatch. This is all with outside temp 10-14 degrees (so you may get more in hotter months).

I did a round trip the other day that was almost 100% motorway driving. I drove at 70 and got about 210 of range with about 10% left when I got home.

Thanks for that, makes my decision about a new car even harder!

so long as you drive the same hilly roads as me, weigh the same as me, carry the same load around in the car as me, drive in an identical manner and set all of the car’s settings the same as me I guess my experience will be helpful. If not I wouldn’t take it literally when people share their range on a forum. I found my experience with my extended range MG4 to be nothing like what anyone else experienced. Also if your normal journeys are less than 200 miles it is not relevant (or at least that is what I find as I charge at home every night so it is only the 200+ journeys when I ever think about range and chargers). Never had an issue with it myself especially when you can use a super fast charger. I stopped and used Tesla in Wales a few weeks back. 45p per KW and I was only there for 30 minutes and back up to full power!

That's true, no 2 drivers are the same... I would basically like to make sure I'll get a bump of at least 30% extra range comparing to my current car, as otherwise it might not be worth changing.

I have exactly the same query having driven an MG4 77KW on test today.
It had been charged to 80%, but was showing only 215m range when I got in. We drove approx 10miles, and it was done to 190 when we dropped it back.
On my Kia ENiro, a winter max charge would give 235m range approx. I've driven it 40 miles sinc on mixed driving and it still shows 190m left. After 4yrs with the Niro, I trust the range shown, unless I'm doing mostly motorway 70mph driving.
I know it's about how you drive, temperature etc, but my partner's MG ZS seems to haemorrhage range from charge after first drive.
As the other person said, it is important to know if MG4's claim of 330 max range WMLP is accurate, or whether it is only going to deliver 250-270 in real life UK conditions across mixed driving.....

There exists no such tving as "real life range". You said it yourself.
However, I can testify that on occasions, if I extend a consumption over SoC, I can calculate a range exceeding WLTP.

I decided to go for ID3 77kWh after all (21 plate, 12k miles). The range is between 260 and 300 miles, very happy with this!

100% charge gets me a useable 250 on motorway and 300 in mixed conditions in my extended range in the summer. That’s 100% down to about 10% charge.

Hi from Australia. I just published a video about the first half of our MG4 77 long range Christmas summer 2202km roadtrip

Lots of Stats: charging speed live recordings and full charging costs for each stop

Very happy with the range , easily over 400km despite aircon being on and 30-40°C temperatures.
