Hi everyone, I have some bad news. Last Friday night my car caught fire. While driving on the motorway I noticed excessive heat under the air vent at the foot, a few minutes later there was smoke and when I stopped within a few seconds the fire reached the dashboard. I need to know how many reports there are of MG4 fires and causes in England or elsewhere in the world to see if there are any common problems with this type of vehicle.

That is an intense fire. It will be interesting to find the cause. It doesn't look to be battery related as there doesn't appear to be the tell tale heat and smoke from under the vehicle. The interior is seriously on fire, the windscreen appears to be gone very early in the fire along with the side windows ... or they were down when the fire started.

Unusual, with such and intense fire, the wheels are still there ..... aren't they alloy?

Not come across this before.
Sounds like it could be the cabin heater at fault.

I reckon it was Trump wot did it, likely he used a spark from the loose battery connection to set off the dried leaves (and possibly some twigs) and used the cabin heater to fan the flames
You might be on to something there ...... but it might of been Elon fanning the flames ;) :ROFLMAO:

Many commiserations, you really have suffered with bad luck with your MG4 , first gearbox failure, now apparently first destructive fire . Hope there is a decent investigation and you can get a proper insurance settlement . Will you go down the MG route with your future choices ? Please keep the forum updated with the eventual outcomes. 😥

This is the first time I am reading that an MG4 caught fire. It is very important that the MG representatives report this to SAIC to investigate and ensure any mitigation measures during the servicing of these vehicles. This is scary for all MG4 drivers.

Why is it scary for all MG4 drivers? Lots of ICE cars catch fire but that doesn't make them scary for drivers. These things can happen to any car and it's the first I've heard of any MG (not only MG4) suffering from a fire

Were there any aftermarket accessories fitted?
When was it last serviced?
Not so uncommon for cars to catch fire but being the first one reported on this forum afaik it’s worth having mg to investigate.

I noticed that there was significant camber on the rear wheels too. The rear suspension is a multilink design and I think all the rubber bushes have burnt away allowing vast movement of the components with the cars weight to produce the collapse. The front suspension has also moved back as the wheel is right to the back of the wheel arch. The lower A frame bushes have burnt away, and when dragged onto the recovery vehicle has moved the wheels right back.
