Hi to all, my wife's MG4LR was called by our supplying garage for its yearly safety checks and to install an update to the internal computers. They had the car all day and all seemed OK.
However we could not charge the car as before the service. It would charge on our home 11kW charger about 5% or 8% only. We contacted the garage who insisted that they had done nothing to affect the problem, so, reluctantly we booked the car in for another day for them to sort out and rectify the problem. I collected the car and was assured they had given the car some 9 updates and all was ok.
Now we cannot charge the car at all - fairly important for an electric car.
Now they say they must change the computing units completely.
Understandably We are not happy.
Anybody out there experienced any thing similar? Your thoughts please.

Hi, there are a few threads on this put a few words in the search bar.
Do you have a three phase home EVSE (charge point)?
Does it charge on the granny 2.2kW unit and have you tried a DC CCS rapid charger?
If you are using Richmond they should have charge points on site, the one in Botley does.

Sorry to hear this Chris.

Every dealer should have the ability to test AC and DC charging themselves, so make sure they have thoroughly tested it (leaving it on charge for a long time) before you accept the car back from them next time - it isn't your responsibility to check it, it is theirs.

There are charging faults that can occur with LR cars that require hardware replacement. They are not common but they do happen.

However, the fact that your problems coincided with a dealer visit and software updates is highly suspicious.

Software updates can fail to apply correctly sometimes and some dealers struggle with lack of technical knowledge in these situations. They can contact MG China for support and get expert help, although this usually takes a few days.

Double-check that there is no charging schedule set on the car - this will stop you charging outside the charging window - and sometimes updates / dealer tests can set one.

It is important to establish if the car still charges by other means, so in these situations as @Jomarkh is suggesting you should test it on:

1. Several different AC chargers.
2. Several DC rapid chargers.

Good luck getting this resolved.

I note that this is a copy of a thread you already started. I suggest you read the suggestions posted there and try them,

particularly as to what type of charger - AC, DC and/or both - fails to charge your car. Early Trophys have had CCU problems.
