MG4 Trophy LR
Good morning

I’ve had my MG4 Trophy for a year now and absolutely love it. Such a good car. I’m not a big car person but there’s something about the MG 4 that really does it for me.

I bought it second hand LB72 and it only has 12,000 miles on the clock. I’ve added 3,000 of those so I’m not doing massive miles, though did take it from London to Scotland a few weeks ago.

First service is booked in for Monday and I’m keen to get the most out of the car. There are a few things with the software that could be better for example.

Can I insist on them doing a software upgrade at the garage? If so - which version is the latest?

I’ve tried doing a manual update but always get the message saying no new versions available.

Anything else I should ask them to check?

Thanks -
Andrew

Maybe... Yes, but will it really be better overall?

Sure when we got our MG4s I was all gung ho on getting the latest updates but now I really don't see there's any actual issues that warrant an update that may well introduce other (minor) issues that annoy me more.

Not unless you can convince them there's an actual defect IMHO.

This is the message you will always get for the foreseeable future. Whilst OTA updates are theoretically possible, MG have never enabled them.
Anything else I should ask them to check?

What does LB72 mean? 🤷‍♂️

If that's the start of your reg plate then it should have already had (or be coming up to) it's 2nd service. (My 72 plate MG4 had its 2nd service last November).

Depending where you're based and who is you dealer some will not spend the time to update for free unless it's a warranty issue.

Reason being they have to pay for access as well as some updates take many hours to do meaning an engineer is baby sitting it with a laptop during that time, so doesn't give them much cost effectiveness for mechanics.

I know Glynn Hopkins won't do them unless warranty and they'll also try charge you £250 to even look at issues, even with warranty!

He must mean the first service of his ownership since he bought it second hand a year ago, and assuming it was probably about 12 months old when he got it, it will actually be the car's second service.

Hopefully ... if it is actually the car's first service then he's got another consideration regarding validity of the warranty.

Yeah - some people tend to ignore the key part of the sentence that accompanies that requirement ... Whichever comes first.
