I took delivery of my MG4 Trophy Extended Range in December. I’m a high mileage driver (c.20k) a year and this is my third EV in five years - had a lease Ioniq 5 and Genesis GV60, both great cars (although the service on the Genesis was dreadful) with decent range and features. However, the 4ER is a very worthy alternative so far for about 60% of the cost compared to the models I had.
Getting an EV in UK winter is never a good way to fully understand range but in the last few weeks I’ve started to get a better understanding of how it performs based on my driving and in “average” conditions.
Example: I do a regular early morning 100 mile journey which is 70% motorway. This past two to three weeks, temperatures ranging from 0-13 degrees C. Last ten journeys, starting with an 80% charge, showing c.240 mile range in Eco mode I’ve averaged 4.0 mls/kwh, average speed of 50mph for the whole journey, 2hr average time, closing battery of 49% with 139 miles range showing. So virtually no distance differential. I drive relatively steady, use AC in bursts generally. Heated seats and steering wheel are a bonus when cold as they don’t affect the main battery it seems!
Keen to know if others are seeing similar figures, if what I am seeing is generally above or below what would be expected. For comparison I’d get 4.3 mls/kWh with the GV60 on similar journeys, and 3.8 with the Ioniq 5 - so the 4ER is sitting somewhere between them. I am an Intelligent Octopus customer so it’s costing me 7p kWh generally, although charging is free at the other end of my journey, so the trip home is generally for no energy cost.
I tend to charge to 100% every 2 weeks given the mileage I’m doing - again, what do folk think of that in terms of looking after the battery?
So far, really happy with the 4ER, took some getting used to (and I wish I could navigate the main screen with the steering wheel buttons) but overall a good motor.
