Hi all.

I have a 2024 MG5 Trophy, on about 5000 miles.

Recently I'm having an issue where Android Auto (connected via USB cable) keeps disconnecting and reconnecting.

It happens when the car hits a bump or vibration in the road, not all the time, but that is what often triggers it.

Sometimes it immediately reconnects itself, other times it doesn't and won't reconnect until the whole system has been reset.

The fact it happens when the car hits a bump leads me to think it's either a loose cable or poor cable connection, or some damaged component that's sensitive to shocks/vibration.

It worked fine when I first had the car, it's got worse since it started about 2 months ago.

So I can obviously book the car in under warranty but if it's possibly just a loose cable connection I could check this myself if I knew how to remove the trim and get to the cable connection behind the unit?

I have had this on my 2022 MG5 ,though it does happen so often now . Only thing I can suggest is change the USB cable to a higher quality one and as short as possible or only use the cable that came with the phone.
Other than that it may be related to poor signal or heavy interference. On a previous car I found that my AA dropped out on the M4 near Reading for probably that reason

Thanks for the reply. I've tried wiggling the cable in the socket end and phone end, and have tested it on another device. The cable is already a decent one although I haven't tried changing it. I also don't think it's phone signal related as I'm not in poor signal areas.

The device can be working fine then I hit a bit of a bump or minor pothole, and AA disconnects from the car. The car infotainment screen is still on, radio still on etc, just disconnects from AA.

Given that it happens exactly the moment I go over a bump or pothole, it really has to be some sort of loose connection or fault that is caused by a loose component.

That's fair enough more likely a usb socket fault or dust in it maybe ? I'd still try another cable if you have a spare one lying about 😊

In my case I'm fairly sure it was the usb port in the phone not getting a good enough grip on he cable. I tried lots of different cables, some of which worked for a while. I couldn't see any correlation between cost of cable and how well it worked.
In the end I bought a wireless dongle and things are so much better.

There's no obvious issue with the phone-side port. I can wiggle the cable in the port and it doesn't disconnect.

Which wireless dongle did you buy?

I went with the Carlinkit 3.0 - it was the cheapest I could find. If I was buying again I think I'd go for one of the smaller ones that have no cable at all.
One thing to say about mine is that it took an absolute age to boot up when I first plugged it in. I don't know if it was doing updates or something but I was about to give it up for dead when it finally started up.

Hi, I have had a different bump issue, the built-in satnav stopped working. It would only restart after stopping the car, switching off as if about to get out, and turning back on. My MG5 is 2024.
