MG5 Exclusive
Our 2 year old mg5 broke down in August last year:I could swith it “off” ie light remained on, then when tried switching on again got the following warning message: “HV battery shutdown”.To cut a long story short since then Holdcroft’s in Warrington have changed:
The brake booster,
The media console
And now the charger module
All to no avail.Car still in garage and once again!!waiting for mg technical dept to suggest something else!!As you can imagine we are a) more than frustrated,b)wondering what the point of a 7 year warranty is??
c)in agreement that we would never buy another mg again.Comments, suggestions welcome!

What a horror story! Though it is of no help to you, you have my sincerest sympathies. My MG5 is due for its third service very soon, so slightly older than yours, and (touch wood) I've never experienced anything like the problem you have.

However, when the problem first occurred, did you try the method that is mentioned in many posts in the forum: use a 10mm spanner to disconnect the negative terminal of the 12v battery, wait several minutes (up to about 10) and then reconnect to the battery and try to start the car again?

I realise that "advice" (assuming you didn't try this at the time) is now largely irrelevant to you since the various changes made by your dealer must, at some point, have involved disconnecting the 12v battery I would have thought.

Had the same (similar) problem, they changed the charging module and it didn't work. After months of diagnosis (waiting for MG 2nd line tech support) it was traced eventually to corrosion on the charge port terminals. Might be worth mentioning.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Do you at least have a courtesy car?
