Hello All,
I've very recently bought a second-hand 52kWh MG5 model, and I'm looking forward to pile on the miles! With a view of doing some serious travelling, I've been trawling through all the threads to do with charging at Tesla Superchargers, and unfortunately the information on the pre-facelift Standard Range model is not quite clear, so with this in mind I will be attempting to make a (hopefully) neat pile of information on specifically this model in this thread, with the help of everybody interested. With Tesla making membership a lot more affordable, it therefore makes a whole lot of sense to at least try to get this ability enabled. Peak time rates of less than 52p/kWh for members sounds a lot more like a good deal than the 79p-85p charged by the likes of BP Pulse/Shell/Ionity et cetera.
A short synopsis of where we currently stand with the ability to charge at Tesla Superchargers:
(1) Post-facelift LR: Can charge (confirmed by many - edit: also needs FW update)
(2) Pre-facelift LR: Can charge after firmware update (confirmed by some)
(3) Pre-facelift SR: Cannot charge (Confirmed by many, also tested by myself at Dorking Supercharger using specific station successfully used by a MG4 just before my attempt)
It would be good to know what the official reason for the SR not being able to charge at TSC, and what can be done to enable this to change.
Thanks for reading, and all comments gratefully received.
Regards,
Jan Henkins
