MG4 XPOWER
Hi All

I've had a new MG Xpower (Red) for 6 weeks now and have a few things to say

Good points :
1) Very Fast - probably too fast but I knew what I was getting and I'm happy.
2) Red is great colour in my opinion

I feel bad for not having more good points :)

Bad Points :
1) When it rains the back SAIC lighting plastics get waterlogged and mist up until the sun comes out. Looks a bit tacky and cheap when steamed up.

2) I do a lot of short journeys and quite often just want to jump out the car to go into a shop or premises, I'll only be a couple of minutes so traditionally I wouldn't lock my old car. However with the MG, if I don't grab the keys and lock the door, then the air con, lights, radio etc all stay ON! I know there is a power off setting within the settings but it's easier to just grab the keys and lock it.

Am I missing something or does the car just stay on until you lock it?

I've even tried leaving the keys inside and locking the car via the door handles , but it won't let me unless the keys are outside the car. (intentional feature I've now read)

3) How do I permanently turn off the driver assists? Can this be programmed in as a favourite settings? I say this because up until yesterday I could live with it beeping at me every time I went near the centre lane or it moving the steering wheel to keep me straight when I didn't need it. However, yesterday, I was in very slow moving traffic, and I was turning right, so as I approached the turning point, the car had to cross over some chevrons to avoid a car that had stopped on the main road, as I pulled round onto the chevrons at about 10mph, the car suddenly slammed on the brakes and skidded to a halt, the car behind me had to skid to stop to avoid hitting me. All I can assume is that it either didn't like me crossing the chevrons, or the camera picked up on coming traffic and decided I was going to collide with them - either way it was VERY DANGEROUS and I now feel I can't trust the car. Any advice would be appreciated!

4) The radio\bluetooth regularly seems to freeze up and I can't get any sound, also the bluetooth doesn't always pair up when i get in the car (I'm using apple) which is annoying.

5) The air con is just wrong, it has to be 25 degrees just to get mildly warm

6) Not MG's fault I suppose, but Ive also noticed that driving around on ECO with full brake regen means you don't tend to use your brakes, so all my disks are rusty with a few weeks. (use your brakes for a few hours I expect you will all say :)

Apart from all that, I'm still loving the power the car has but after only 6 weeks, I'm sort of glad I only got a 2 year lease.

2) No you are not missing something, everything stays on until you lock it
3) You can't. But it sounds like you need a sw update to make it less sensitive. Mine doesn't go off very often. Always indicate if you plan to cross the line.
4) Get a sw upgrade, my R40 doesn't do this
5) Yes, adjust to suit well above what you'd expect
6) I drive in normal with 3 recon and I rarely use my brakes. I've done 2k since July and they are not rusty yet but the weather has been good. Go for a blast once a week and you'll use them.

A youtuber friend did few tests and the air conditioning is about 6/7 degrees below what you set it to. I usually I keep it between 26-28.

I reckon you get about five degrees less than what you set it to. I also keep mine between 26 and 28. Or 23-24 if I'm sleeping in the car, in a sleeping bag.

2) I keep the key in my pocket and when I jump (OK at my age it's ease) myself out I shut the driver's door and use the button on the handle.

3) You can adjust the sensitivity of the forward braking system and if you keep a light pressure on the brake pedal the car knows your in control and won't slam on the brakes.

4) You might need an infotainment software update. Tell your dealer you have Bluetooth and DAB problems.

6) Put in low regen and brake hard downhill

Hi and welcome to the forum !

I've had my Xpower a year and agree with all your points so nothing wrong with your car !!

In addition to the above which answer your points I'd just suggest getting into a startup routine to suit your needs. The car seems to like having the first 20-30 seconds going through a "boot up" peroid before pressing the brake pedal and getting into "Ready mode". Once I have done that I then customise the driving modes to my needs using the infotainment screen and personally I always turn Lane Keep Assist off and turn on OPD (usually). I'm afraid you need to do this every trip as the car will not remember most settings you make.

My rear discs have got a lot better over Summer by a few heavy braking sessions from 70mph in low regen mode on a quiet dual carriageway I use once a week.

BTW there is an XPower sub-forum on here too for more specific Xpower talk ?

Got my X Power a on Saturday (14th)
So far I haven't turned the LKA off, as it doesn't bother me at all, it's given me a few little tugs ( so to speak) but nowt that makes me want to turn it off. Also I haven't experienced any vibes at all. (touch wood) And checked the undertray, again no problems. I'm granny charging it for the first time tonight. So fingers crossed ?everything is OK. ??

Sounds promising, what cables did yours come with?

Good news ?
Sounds like you have the updated software then?
Have you determined a manufacturing date?
Get mine on Monday...

Yep, obviously got it on Saturday, so registered in September. But build date was December 2023, to be honest I was a tad disappointed at that at first. But as it doesn't seem to have any of the obvious problems, I can live with with that. ??
Good luck for Monday. ?

Got mine 5th September with build December 2023, well I thought it was August until someone pointed out they use the stupid month first date format. All good though so far, I do turn off LKA because I've hated it in every car that's had it.

90% of cars available to buy will probably be build date of end of 2023/start of 2024 as they are awaiting for enough of the stock to be sold before they announce the MY24 specs

Welcome, what colour did you get ? I almost got the Matt green. You don’t see that many off then lon the Roads in Bristol.and my son said green is a ‘dads colour so I had to chose another colour.! I think Matt green would been worse for sap and bird sh1rb no.! a) it’s matte green which I think would cause me issues with bird poo and sap removing - and matte green is harder to polish I think. I’m going to stick on a questions for everyone … does anyone know if the brake lights get applied when your sanmmm But I have another question for all

Looking after Matte Green is a doodle.

Easier than any other gloss coated car I've ever had.

The downside though is massive.

You won't get away with polishing out light clear coat scratches with a Matte finish.

I have been uber careful with my car this last year and will continue to do so.

Stone chips you can touch in as per thread 'Cleaning Matte Green Paint.' Cleaning Matte Green Paint.

re. 3. try turning on towing mode. it turns off most (maybe too many) things and actually stays off
re. 5. i feel mine is like yours. check your aircon isn't set to eco aswell tho... this mode won't heat at all i believe

Had my X Power for 3 months. So a little report. Loving it so far. I seem to have been lucky in that, my motor doesn't seem to suffer from any of the known faults, that plague some MG4/X Power's. Sure it's got it's little quirks, but to be fair what car doesn't, and they don't bother me. For what I paid for the car, I'm well pleased with it. Best performance car, bargain, ever, at least for now. 🙂👍

Not sure if this has been said but if the infotainment system freezes up which happens from time to time just hold the home button till it turns off and it resets itself and everything works fine after that !!

Biggest upgrade you can do is the tyres ..

After a few more days driving its feeling better and better ..

In the next few days im going to give it a thrash up and down some twisty mountain roads

its not torque steering out of corners anymore ..

Can still lose traction but it's minimal!!

Funny how some tyres have put more fun into the car than before ..

Before I didn't feel confident with the car last thing I wanted to do is crash it which even with the better traction of AWD it just felt like that could happen easily..

Now I'm feeling much more confident that the car will hang on in corners be it wet or dry !!

I'm even going to make the recommendation to my dealer to tell their MG Australia REP to make a comment to MG themselves about putting Pilot sport 5s as stock fitment !!

pilot sport 5s are great on it but i do wonder what it would be like if i went UUHP tyres of the likes of Pilot sport 4S's or the new pilot sport s 5s !!

For a few extra dollars and maybe the small loss of range would putting actual sport tyres be so BAD ??

How many people buy the X power thinking where is my claimed 400km range when ive got to lose SO much hp to maybe achieve it !!

So who cares slap some proper sport tyres on there and let me have fun and feel better on the road with that slight drop in range !!
