Anyone live near Ros on Sea in north Wales? On the sea front there are 10 Pod Point chargers, but you can't use them! They are run by Conwy council and have been removed from the Pod Point app, Who are they for?

Assuming they are the ones being installed on West Promenade?
These are new and wasn't aware they were active yet at all.

They've been in since September when I was last there, they have power now but as I said are not in the Pod Point app so can't be used by the public the guy from PP thought they may be for the council use only?

If they were new in September and are intended for public use then they are required to have screens and contactless payment terminals. (Assuming they deliver >8kW charge rate).

Wishful thinking that they maybe just plug and play on free vend 🤣.
Odd though that Pod Point has been clearly involved in supplying their branded posts and they appear unable to receive any revenue from them then ?.
The local councillor have spent an absolute fortune on making huge improvements on both sea defences there and improving both the beach and sea front infrastructure in the area and these units appear not to be accessible to the public 🤷🏻.
Only the local council has the answer to this question unfortunately.

I think I'll drive by and have a look tomorrow.
There's 10 at one end of the parking are and 5 at the other, this seems excessive for just council vehicles?
Could easily just be a 🐓up somewhere and they should have been installed with payment terminals.

Would be worth checking what rating they are ... if they're just 7kW destination charge points then they don't need screens/payment terminals.

If I remember correctly, they are pretty much the standard 7 kW public posts like the one shown below.

In which case they don't need screens and payment terminals (as far as I know - unless I'm misremembering the new regs; maybe all new charge points need them, but only existing ones >8kW need them retrofitted)?

Basically, you have Tesla in Flint, and a few 50kW chargers dotted around - Tesla have been promising one on Bangor for over 3 years - we had an absolute gem via Vendelectric @ Talacre Beach Resort which was charged by the hour / not per kWh, overnight to fully fill the MG4 was between £2-3 / night - it worked out at around 5p / kWh. I cant find it this evening, but was around about a year ago (and was offsite so anyone could charge) -

just found this from plugshare
Fab1577 - Aug 23
Volkswagen ID.4
Paying 39p per hour, rather than per kWh. Works out at approximately 5.5p per kWh. Can be a little hard to spot if cars parked in front, it's in the furthest corner of the car park in front of the reception

There are more ultra rapid chargers than that. Thera’s a big new Osprey charging station at Billie Jean’s Cafe at the A55 Pentre Halkyn junction (but it’s quite near Tesla at Flint Mountain, and twice the price), and Instavolt at Rhug Farm Shop on the A5 near Corwen.

I’ve just found them showing as available on the pod point app.
Next time I’m there I’ll give them a try.

Looks like those Rhos points have only just gone in.

Rhyl has plenty of charging (not counting single chargers).

  • 3x 75kW Osprey at Sainsbury's
  • 2x 120kW Instavolt at the McD's next door (as mentioned above)
  • 2x 50kW Evolt & 32x 7kW AC at West Kinmel St car park
  • 2x 50kW Osprey at the Talardy (St Asaph junction on A55)
  • 2x 50kW Evolt at Kinmel Park West services (both sides)

Just spotted these relatively new charging site yesterday, nice fancy Porsche charging on one of the rapid units !.
Travelling on the A55 in the direction of Llandudno, leave at the first St Asaph exit ( the one before the Talardy Hotel ).
There is a large brown information sign clearly displaying “The Tweedmill Outlet Store”.
It’s takes less than 10 minutes to reach the shopping outlet store after you have left the A55.
There is a coffee shop upstairs and a full restaurant on the ground floor, this could be very handy if you needed a charge on route further down the coast, as you can grab something to eat, do a bit of shopping and use the toilet factories, while your car is charging away.
This maybe a good option, as maybe it will be less populated than others chargers, close by 🤷🏻.
It’s easy to return to the A55 in about 8 -10 minutes.
Worth noting, the chargers are only available within the stores opening hours !.
