It's in Norwegian, but this will open the door for many lawsuits against MG in Norway (my country)

That's interesting. We'll see what happens now then. This could prove very very costly to MG. 🙂👍

Yes, MG made a mistake in putting a badge of AWD at the back of the car. It should have been only a PERFORMANCE badge.

Because the front motor is for increasing the power (it main job) and because it is a synchronous motor and not an induction motor, it requires the damn one way clutch !

But in my opinion the car is still amazing and a lot of effort has been put into it.

And I believe filing a complaint against MG and trying to harm the company is a short-sighted and very bad action.

I will not go through into this action.

Is this confirmed? Many EV motors are synchronous, and don't use clutches. The motor controller deals with the synchronisation, aided by a position sensor.

If MG don't want regeneration on the front wheels, that can be arranged in software. It seems silly to me not to have regen on the front wheels, where the "weight" naturally falls when braking. Whether to have it on both axles rather than only ever one, I haven't thought about it. Possibly regen on both axles would increase tyre wear somehow.

But maybe when attempting to coast with regen turned on would be annoying, with slight torque transferring from the front to the back all the time. I'm sure that they could fix that with software too, leaving light regen on the rear motors snd transferring all or some regen smoothly to the front wheels as regen increases.

That linked article does sort of translate into English, enough to follow what reasoning was for the appeal judges to award him a full refund plus all the interest on unpaid car payments, and his legal costs .... but it was against the dealer, not MG itself, a bit harsh, but I guess they could have sorted it a lot earlier if they had been a bit more flexible about the issue.

The vehicle was bought because it was advertised as 4 X 4 and he needed a 4 X 4 to access his property and to do mountain tracks etc .... The issue is, the 4 X 4 only works going forward, so nose down on a slippery surface and you only have rear wheel drive that has the weight shifted from the back axle to the front, to get you back up the slope ......

Maybe there will be an update in the XPower owners manual, "Attention: If losing control and go off road down a muddy or icy slope, be sure to leave the roadway backwards .... MG take no responsibility for the vehicle operator ignoring these instruction and getting stuck nose first in a ditch o_O ;)

I wonder if MG road side assist would come out and drag you back out and onto the road ......

For this Marvel R synchronous motor design and era, yes it needs.

Any way you see many of the SECOND GENERATION EV cars like the Xpeng P7 and the BYD Seal have been changed the front motor from synchronous to induction motor (Tesla also have induction motor in the front but a synchronous motor in the rear).

Typical MG to launch the car with AWD but forget to clearly inform that it doesn't apply in reverse.

Now the time for my car is almost over, but MG needs to step up on several fronts to attract new customers to their cars. Most other Chinese brands are significantly better in general on all points, so MG has a lot to work on with their future cars.

I haven't read the case notes but there are lots of all wheel drive cars that allow various decoupling of the all wheel drive system. I guess the question is did the customer specifically ask if the car has permanent all wheel drive before purchasing and what answer were they given

That question isn't enough though. Any part-time system would have the answer "no", but do have the option of using AWD in reverse. I certainly found the lack of AWD in reverse a surprise when I heard about it. I have never personally heard of a system like this in any other vehicle.
