Octopus does It Again!! (Tariff Reduction July 2024)

I've merged 3 threads as they are all on the same subject.
The thread title has also been amended to make its content a little more transparent :)

Has eon drive updated theirs yet as I am with octopus but am waiting for the July prices as eon was cheaper for me before?
Not sure why there’s so much hype here on Octopus. I’m on Eon and key difference is they give 7 hours (00.00 - 07.00) low rate at 9p. I usually need the 7 hours to charge to 80-90%; so if I had Octopus (which I can’t as they don’t support my home charger) I would pay 5 x 7 (if that’s their cheapest) plus 2 x 22 = 79p for 7 hours so Octopus 11.3p vs Eon 9p. So I’m happy not being on Octopus.

To each their own of course, but that two hours of car charging would have to be a large proportion of your overall energy use to make that much of a difference.

Eon's day rate (when most people will still use most of their electrictty) is a fair bit higher for me than octopus.

OK but how does the peak rate compare?

so if I had Octopus (which I can’t as they don’t support my home charger) I would pay 5 x 7 (if that’s their cheapest) plus 2 x 22 = 79p for 7 hours so Octopus 11.3p vs Eon 9p.
That isnt how it would work with intelligent (the 7p you quote is IOG off peak rate) You would be guaranteed to get 6 hours and in all likelihood get 7 hours plus at off peak rate for you whole house, not just the car. So your costs with Octopus would be 7p vs Eon 9p. The standing charge on Octopus is 65.373p and opposed to EON's 67.44p - £7 per year cheaper on Octopus. EON's peak rate is 28.56p = 6.27p dearer than Octopus.

So I’m happy not being on Octopus.
Really?

Eon Next Drive V3 is already cheaper than the Octopus tariffs for off peak at 6.571p/kWh, so hopefully a drop in July will put it cheaper again.

You need to update to Eon Next Drive V3. It's
  • 6.571p/kWh off peak from midnight - 7am.
  • 27.793p/kWh on peak
  • 60.293p/day standing charge

Yes it is, 0.1p BUT it’s also limited to 7 hrs, IOG gives you 6 hrs guaranteed and substantially more when needed. The Peak rate on EON and the standing charge are substantially more than IOG

But Eon haven't released a new price tariff yet for July, which may put it cheaper again. They might not release a July tariff in which case the Octopus deal is better.

If you don't have an approved charger for IOG then Eon is by far the better choice.

I never said any other, all I have said is what the IOG position is here and now. To be fair EIN is only 0.1p cheaper now or 0.6p cheaper before the IOG price drop but doesn’t give you the hours that you can get with IOG. Standing charge and peak rate would very quickly makeup the 0.6p or 0.1p

Checking my latest bill, Eon off-peak is actually 6.571 pkWh (for my area). So nearly 10% cheaper than Octopus off peak rate.

I know you didn't mention any other tariff, I was just pointing out that Eon may drop their prices again as they haven't yet announced a new tariff for July, which may bring them more into line with their on peak and standing charges.

And with solar and battery installation I'm not too concerned about the on peak rate.

I heard a rumour about this but I don't seem to have had an email. Unless I overlooked it in the 750 that were waiting in my inbox when I got home. Did I mention I'm jetlagged?

Looks good, and Octopus suits me as I think six hours overnight will be enough for me. I don't often want to go from nothing to full, and as my battery is only the 51 kwh one I think it'll do.

I suppose they'll be cutting the export tariff, although I hope not by much. I still haven't got that pesky G99 and so far I have donated 521 kwh to them for free. Sunny days when I was on holiday, but with the best will in the world I can't use anything like the generation on a sunny day anyway. I'd have to go out joyriding all night to empty the car for the next day's load!

7 hours? 49Kwh Every day? what's that, 150 Miles/Day - Fair play for picking an EV for such a long commute!

Unless I've missed something I haven't seen anything about a fall in the export tariff to go with the decreases in the import tariffs.
On Octopus Intelligent Flux you get the same outgoing as you pay incoming, so the two go hand-in-hand!

They sent me a message on the 20th confirming that the export would be dropping.

I'm on Intelligent Go. I didn't get any message about the decrease in prices, but my prices did indeed decrease. I don't yet have the export tariff so I wouldn't get a message about it or have any way to know, but I haven't seen anyone else say anything about the export tariff.

I got one about gas prices going down and the export, but didn't see an email about the import!

So perhaps they missed a few emails.

But it is quite possible they will keep the export rate the same for other tariffs, in which case there is no need for them to send an email.

I've just switched from the standard flexible to Go (still using the granny for now) as the premium at my location has dropped to 1.3p and the extra hour was useful. Apart from the fact that the in home display doesn't seem capable of coping with split rates all went smoothly.
