If anyone has Intelligent Go with Octopus, they are offering half price charging on Bank Holiday Monday night...
email below...

As we dive head-first into the (gulp) last Bank Holiday before Christmas, we’re all in need of a little recharge. That’s why…

We’re giving you 50% off Intelligent charging on Monday night.

When you charge up after your Bank Holiday adventures this weekend, it could be even cheaper than usual.

Here’s what you need to do to get the Bank Holiday Recharge:
  • Plug in on the night of Monday 26th August
  • Keep the car unplugged on Tuesday 27th August night

Do this, and we’ll make any Intelligent-scheduled EV charging on Monday night 50% off. (That’s just EV charging, so you can skip the tumble dryer marathon!)

Within two weeks, we’ll work out what you used during the Bank Holiday Recharge and credit your Octopus account 50% back!

If for any reason we can’t get your readings from Monday, we’ll credit you the average across your fellow Intelligent drivers.

Why are we doing this?

Monday and Tuesday night are a big opportunity to demonstrate the power of Intelligent drivers – we unlock mega-cheap prices for Intelligent drivers by charging your cars flexibly to support the grid. By avoiding busy times and making the most of renewables, we can nab cheaper wholesale prices and get compensation through grid balancing schemes.

We then pass on these savings to you with some of the UK’s cheapest EV charging rates.

Whether you decide to switch on on Monday night or not, we hope you have a lovely, switched-off Bank Holiday Weekend.

That seems to be the idea. I'm currently in Yorkshire and driving home tomorrow or Monday. I have 206 miles on the GOM at 100% charge but that was after a day on a motorway plagued by 50 mph restrictions and no way will I actually get the 186 miles home on one charge. So I plan a stop at the Gretna Tesla superchargers. I'll try just to get as little Tesla juice as possible to get me home safely and see how I do on the Octopus offer.

British Gas is 50% cashback today ( Sunday 25th) on whatever your electricity rate is from 9am to 5pm. Usually its 11am to 4pm each Sunday but today its more. Something to do with celebrating the ParaOlympics.

I think I'm in a position to take maximum advantage of this offer...

Even better once I've used another five miles tomorrow afternoon picking up the cat from the cattery.

I'm slightly hoping they give me a continuous slot, so that it will do for the long charge.

I got a credit through for this. £1.34. About 50p less than I thought it might be, but better than a slap in the face with a wet fish, as they say.

I worked out that it would save me roughly £1 but as no effort was required on my part (the car needed charging) I have taken part. I am wondering if the real reason this offer was made was to examine grid loading. There was a similar offer to individuals with solar and battery but no car where Octopus paid for electricity used above and beyond normal usage for a short period, my friend saved £0.37 by doing all her washing so really the savings are not worth the effort but maybe they got valuable usage data, who knows.

I'm not sure what they're up to, but you could well be right. I actually drove home on Sunday and arrived back on my last few electrons, but waited until Monday to recharge because of the offer. So they moved my charge from Sunday (which might have been relatively quiet) to Monday, which was presumably busy, with most people arriving home that day.
