On start up engine firing up?

Had the mg3 hybrid for just over a week, first few days press the start button and puts the car into electric mode, last couple of days press the start and the engine is powering on?
Plenty of charge in the battery on the screen info.
Anyone had similar experiences?

Doing approximately 18 miles a day.
Was OK to begin with, press the start button and start in ev, last couple of days it's starting the engine then going into ev while driving.

Hi, I've had similar in mornings going to work 6ish engine stays on for full drive, when coming home starts in EV switches to hybrid then back to EV. But in morning lights on and wipers. Surmising that as it is using 12v battery for ancillary stuff it is running to maintain a charge in battery.

Starting up in electric EV mode depends on a number of factors, including the charge of the high-voltage battery and also...the weather outside.
If outside temperatures drop below 15 or 10°C, the MG3 will start up in combustion mode to protect the engine and optimise the performance of the HV battery.
It's automatic, managed by the MG3's internal software, but it's actually worse for fuel consumption....even if this thermal start-up only lasts a short time.

Fuels consumption is a big problem the early morning journey about 3 miles the EV part never comes in and is around 30mpg. Be interesting to see what happens when weather gets colder and darker and more electrical ancillaries are used lights heating etc.

When starting up in cool weather (<10°C), the electronics dictate that you should start the engine on the internal combustion engine with an old-fashioned choke in order to warm up the engine very quickly.
After a maximum of 1 to 2 minutes, the combustion engine cuts out in favour of the internal combustion engine.
All full-hybrid cars operate in this way and, overall, fuel consumption does not increase considerably.

Understand the running gear, but what I'm trying to say is for last 4 weeks temp has been below 10 and dark morning (5:30am) only the petrol comes in. It isn't till temp rises by the afternoon on return journey it mixes beetween EV and combustion and until this happens I get 30mpg. I hope it doesn't do this as autumn and winter approach and low temp and darkness arrive as the benefit of petrol economy will vanish. I'm sure it won't and will even out or I hope so, as it is only now the temp has started to drop.

It is starting to get cooler in the mornings now. The engine will start to provide heat for the heater to warm the car interior.
Also it is good to have some warmth in the cabin as batteries perform better in moderate temperatures, they don't like to be too cold or hot.

In winter, it's a good idea to use the heated steering wheel and seats to reduce fuel consumption and engine start-up.
