I travelled to Swindon a couple of days ago and a visible orange cup warning popped up on the dash (on both trips) Along with annoying alarm sound, which could only be cleared via safety settings. Not easy to sort on M6!!!
This has not happened before. Does anyone have any details and how this is triggered.
Thanks in advance

This is what the manual says...

It can't be time driving. I've driven my SE SR for over three hours quite a few times and once for four hours, and I've never seen it. I have no idea what you need to do to get it to show that cup.

Another annoying feature. It appears to trigger around 3hrs 40min for me. It's very basic - it would help if it was integrated with the Sat Nav as I've been 5 minutes from home when it kicks off - surprisingly I'm not going to stop and get out under those circumstances. Also it could be operated with a timer - just bong for a minute and shut up - there's absolutely no point in continuing indefinitely. Agreed, diving deep into the menus on a motorway (invariably where it starts) is, as they say, sub-optimal.🤪

On the phase 1 Trophy there is an infra-red sensor on top of the steering column, it tracks your eyes to make sure you are looking at the road. This is what caused so many issues with false alerts until the software update.

It should also be tied into monitoring things like late braking, weaving on the road and other indicators of less than perfect concentration brought on by drowsiness. I've not had any alert in my Trophy since the software fix, despite driving for long durations at times.

Its an overzealous "safety" system (as every "safety" system seems to be on this car). Look down to check your speed for 0.1 seconds too long "BEEEEEEP" check your left mirror and blind spot before signaling "BEEEEEP". You can silence the beep, permanently thankfully in the cars menu. However, its pointless turning the infernal system off as once you drop below the activation threshold speed (35mph IIRC) it automatically resets its self the next time you go over 35mph.

Driver assistance systems peaked with ABS.

I don't think it's either time or distance activated. Unless mine is broken.

The driver alertness system wasn't fitted to the SE, I think it was just a batch 1 Trophy thing.

It worked so poorly they very quickly removed it from subsequent deliveries of phase 1 cars

The OP has an SE SR just like me. We're talking about a cup symbol that pops up on the dashboard together with some bongs or something, nothing to do with the weird thing that was fitted to early Trophys. I don't know why I've never seen it.

With MGs track record it's probably not consistent on every car

The Trophy eye tracking thing was part of the drowsiness monitor which would alert with bongs and the coffee cup symbol. I thought the early SEs also had the tracker.

That's what the cup symbol is, it pops up when you get the beep and "DON'T DRIVE FATIGUED" message on the dash, I guess its supposed to be a suggestion that you take a break for some coffee.

Though I guess that with the issues in the software there have been I wouldn't put a glitch past MG.

Playing a bit of devil’s advocate here, but considering the guidelines for driving in The Netherlands used to be “2 hours drive should be followed by a 15 minute break” (at least that was the message about ten years ago), and seeing as most people here are reporting this cup symbol way past the two hour mark, could the car perhaps be picking up on fatigued driving before it becomes obvious to the driver?
