I had my mobile engineer status removed at work so have bought my first car for 25 years. My commute is a 100 mile round trip. I'm praying that the SE version can handle this distance. I am travelling 170 miles to Devon to get the car tomorrow. The drive back will be interesting. The car really impressed me when I did a test drive. Faster than my old Focus ST220

To the forum. And congrats on your new motor. 🙂👍
That commute and your drive back, should be no trouble, whatsoever.

If you are going that far I assume you've got one of the great deals out there. 🤩

For that commute your SE would need to do more than 2miles per kWh. The lowest I've had on ours was 2.8 on a short journey in very cold weather so you will be absolutely fine.

That said, I do tend to stay at or below 65 on dual carriageways (unless I'm going for a swift overtake). The car looks quite aerodynamic but like most cars it does lose efficiency at higher speeds.

Good luck with the pick up.

@Rolfe's main criterion when selecting the SE SR was that it would do a minimum of 100 miles on a full charge, year-round. She's had hers for almost 2 years now and hasn't been disappointed or stranded. :)

The worst I've had from mine is about 115 miles in the depths of winter, and that was only once. Driving style is the biggest factor in range ... the faster you go, the more energy you use. (This isn't an EV-thing, it's a Physics thing).

Welcome, you have picked the best car at this price range so well done. Do you have a home charger ( not Granny Cable)? If you do and thus can plug in every night, 100 miles is no problem at all. Having said that also get the Tesla app so you can charge at Tesla superchargers. I would also recommend the electroverse card (for occasional emergencies and driving in Europe). If you can get the octopus EV rate of 7p then you are fully loaded for an excellent EV experience. Use your friends or my referral codes for electroverse and octopus if you can, you will get some more money.

Hi, you can always do a quick charge at Rownhams or just off junction 3 at the Walnut Tree pub or Lidl

Shouldn't be a problem. Im delighted with my SE SR. best get a good wall charger and probable off peak electric set up

Do let us know how it all went on collection day (y) (y)

What he said. I've never, ever had less than 100 miles (and more) out of it. Probably the worst that ever happened was pitching up at Tebay services, which is 110 miles from home, on 7% charge. This was almost all done at motorway speeds, with squally heavy rain showers and a stiff headwind when crossing the Southern Uplands. And the heater on. I had in fact been aiming for Forton originally, and I have made it there (147 miles) in the past, but the bad weather killed my range.

Fast driving in cold/bad weather with the heating on will get you over 100 miles easy. If you think it's getting tight, just take 5 mph off your speed until it isn't. When I go to Glasgow and back, which is about 95 miles in fact, I seldom get home with less than 30% in the battery, even with pre-heating and even heating the battery, in winter. In summer that's more like 45%. On slower roads/warmer weather, 150 miles is easy. I suppose more than that is possible, but the thing is, if I'm going a long way, I'm not usually going slowly!

You'll be fine. And the GOM is very reliable. I've been down to 4% with no worries, no loss of power and no turtles.

At full charge and all the way down to about 30 % I find that the GOM is around 20 % optimistic and totally ignore it.
It was predicting 215 miles when I unplugged today yet my average consumption for the previous charge was 3.8 miles kWh, meaningless nonsense as per usual.

It is handy that it gives itself a slap in the face and suddenly becomes sensible at the 30 % mark though as this is when running out becomes a serious proposition ;)

I don't find that. Do you do a long charge regularly?

Couple of times a month at least, makes no difference. What irks me is you would think that 50% would be a good point for the GOM to accept reality.

If you've done say 90 miles at that point it would be reasonable to presume another 90 will be available down to zero.
You're not gonna want to run that low so aim for 70 miles for safety.

The GOM is usually suggesting well over 100 at that stage, you really would have to drive at 40mph to achieve that

That's weird. Mine pretty much always makes sense. I mean, I know how I've been driving and how I intend to drive, so I can interpret what it says in that context. I never get the feeling it's way out unless it's reset itself.

But the thing with the LFP battery is that the curve is so flat that it doesn't know about reality till it gets down to about 10%, so I don't know how yours suddenly get sensible at 30%.
