I notice this forum has been a politics-free zone, which is probably for the best.

However just from a practical perspective, what can we expect re EVs now? From a quick Google,

The [Labour] party’s biggest proposed change is to reinstate the 2030 ban on petrol and diesel cars, thus reversing the Tories’ decision to push it back to 2035.

Labour also aims to introduce a fresh piece of legislation for second-hand electric cars. It’ll launch a new, standardised method of recording the health of used EV battery packs which the party says will help drivers make more informed buying decisions.

I'd also be interested in knowing how EV drivers votes compare to the general population, in particular whether there are more Greens. If anyone knows of any figures on that, please point them out. That sort of nuance hasn't cropped up yet.

No way of knowing , I suppose . All I can say personally is that , though I'm very much in favour of the Green Party , a large swing to the Greens in my constituency may have let Reform in.... and then I would have been feeling sick this morning ;)

According to Sovacool, B.K., Kester, J., Noel, L. and de Rubens, G.Z., 2019. Income, political affiliation, urbanism and geography in stated preferences for electric vehicles (EVs) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technologies in Northern Europe. Journal of Transport Geography, 78, pp.214-229.

Nordic findings:
EV ownershipEV ownership is associated to political orientation but distributed differently with an equal uptake between socialist/greens (6.7%) and liberals (6.6%), closely followed by Christian democrats/conservatives (6.3%), social democrats (5%) and the “other” group (3.7%) with the lowest rate for those who preferred not to answer (2.9%). After recoding to never owned an EV and owned or owning an EV, this association extends to Iceland (with a 30.3% peak for Christian democrats and conservatives) and Denmark (p = .002), with higher scores for socialists and greens and social democrats, but does not extend to Finland, Norway or Sweden. This indicates that in those countries political orientation is less connected to EV ownership.
EV interestThe EV interest of non-EV owners is also associated to political orientation and is highest for socialist and greens (72.8%), about 60% for social democrats and liberals, and lowest for Christian democrats and conservatives with 52.9% answering somewhat interested or very interested (lower than the “other” group that could not find themselves in our categories). This association extends to each of the countries, indicating that political leaning impacts level of interest in EVs.

I think the Greens couldn't care less about EVs. They probably dont want anyone driving and want to create more car free zones

Interesting, thanks

What a load of Gobbledygook. ?

There are indeed many kinds of 'green.' The UK green party is a soft socialist green environmentalist party.

"Deep greens" are more likely to be opposed to all sorts of human activities, and implicitly perhaps would think it better overall if there were significantly fewer humans so that the rest of nature could thrive.

In terms of EVs I expect most would strongly prefer them to fossil cars, but some would boycott cars entirely and just use bikes and public transport.

Politics, don't get me started on that:( to the relief of the mods ( not the 60s scooter culture) I'm, for future reference going to join the Refrain Party.:D Unless.........

I'm a brexit voting Gammon Reform supporter who fully supports EVs (particularly for public health pollution reasons) and renewable energy (particularly to reduce to the money we pay to certain countries). I'm not so conceited that that I will throw my toys out of the pram unless a political party does absolutely everything I want. That's it as far as the politics goes. I did not start the thread but since its there (unless the mods pull it or not: either I'm fine with btw) we all have a right to comment on it.

As long as you voted. You entitled to your opinion. If you didn't, you shouldn't have an opinion. In my opinion. This is a very quiet Politics thread (so far) compared to other forum's. ??

I think it would be a good thing if Starmer made good on his stated intention to return to 2030 as the cut-off date for new ICE car sales. I have some doubts that he will though.

I have furious disagreements with the Green Party which I'd better not start airing here.

That's because MG owners are adults and know how to put our views across in a dignified manner and accept other's opinions. They might be wrong but we accept that the ignorant ? have the right to express them.
