Apologies if this has already been asked, but I thought I'd see what people take to be their primary reason for going electric. Obviously they are all going to factors but which one got you excited enough about electric cars to entice you?

This is my third full EV.
Tesla Model 3
Audi Etron
MG4 X Power
I always wondered whether I would own a "Car of the future" which they were when I saw the first ever Tesla Roadster on Top Gear many moons ago.

Environmental concerns, wanting to be self sufficient in winter. (Off grid household) and just having a vehicle bang up to date.

I also could not go faster for the money.

I polled other because they are all correct. (For me)

Remember Gerry Anderson's UFO show in the 1970''s?

I saw Ed Straker's gull wing door electric car (which I later found out was built on a mini chassis and had a 1000cc engine) and wanted one. I don't know why, but I always fancied a car that didnt run on conventional fuels, and then climate change became a thing and I became a bit of an eco warrior. :)

Internal combustion engines are SO last century.

(And the money saving ain't bad either)

lol so far I am the only cheapskate :)
Soon became the top option!

Maybe I should have had 'all equally' as an option.

Or 'being ahead of the curve' or something like that!

I was hoping people would really think back and pick which was the decisive one. Perhaps it is too long ago for you if you are already on your third EV!

Thinking about it, being ahead of the curve was probably my primary initial motivation, with "I've heard you can save a ton of money with these things" running it fairly close. Sure, the environment as well, but the 1,000 litre tank of kerosene in my back garden tends to tarnish my environmental credentials a bit. I didn't realise how clean the things are to drive, or how soon you start to regard ICE cars the way you think about cigarettes.

I didn't know they drove like rocket sleds. I came from a GTi though, and wasn't going to get anything that didn't at least come close to that on a test drive. I came back from the test drive with a stupid grin on my face babbling "take my money!" and the rest is history.

I test drove an MG4 on a whim, to see what all the fuss was about (after watching many Bjorn Nyland videos). I was stunned by the driving experience and had my own a week later. Almost 15 months on, I'm amazed by the economy, relish the driving experience and hate being on busy streets on foot smelling ice cars.

Silly really, we had zero intention of going electric in any fashion.

We were just out shopping and were on our way home past all the car dealers when the boss said shall we look at some, we'd passed most of them so I pulled into the MG dealer forecourt purely to turn round, but being me I don't like to take the wee so I said lets just go in and have a look use the loo and go back up the road.

She went to the loo, and I sat in a couple of the cars and was quite impressed, the outgoing models were not well reviewed so I was a bit confused, a saleswoman asked if we would like a drink or anything, and it was a hot day so I said water please, the boss came back and I asked her to sit in the car to get her opinion.

We bought exactly the same car there and then after a good test drive in the demo car.

We were going to get another diesel, EVs of any type were not on our radar, but I had always said if they ever did one where the engine charged the EV battery it'd be a good step, I don't follow the motoring press so didn't know there were few out there.

Love the car HATE the software.

Our old car was 20 years old and needed replacing, my wife wanted electric for the environment, I was not bothered but wanted value for money. With the subsidies we got the MG4 worked out cheaper than a new base model Polo and even secondhand hybrids 4 years old were only a few grand cheaper. The drive, performance and colour choices were big bonuses.

I don’t do many miles and car sits most of the week in a work car park , with the cost of fuel andVED Rising every year mixed with a good finance PCP rate and high PX values at the time
I made the jump in to EV
My ice Kia creed PX value was the same as the price I paid 2 years before

My retirement was impending and my company car was going back, so I had to sort myself a set of wheels. Having already heard about the MG4 launch I'd seen lots of reviews (and lots of early info from here) so I arranged a test drive ... that was all I needed to place an order. :)

The only EV that would meet my practical needs was the MG5. I followed this forum to try and get an idea about reliability. That is my main priority. I wanted to replace our second car and considered a Mitsubishi PHEV. But the prices and quality that was on offer was very poor. I looked at AutoTrader as I had read that prices had dropped dramatically. A two year old MG5 with 22,000 miles and immaculate was a no brainer.
The two hour test drive completely bowled me over.
Actually the depreciation of the MG5 is no different from ICE cars. Roughly half the new price after 2 years.

Does that mean you went for the 'drive' option?

Oh wait, I can see who voted what!

Value it seems.

Overall, "Environment" has snuck into the lead but it is very close!
