preconditioning interior of mg4 SE on IGO?

I also didn't see any power draw from the Ohme but assumed it must just be using the battery.

The App confirmed the receipt of the instruction to turn on with a "Success" message.

I am now trying without the charging cable attached but has anyone got it to heat and draw power from an Ohme Pro and if so, what combination of pre-conditioning / scheduling did you use please.

It depends on how the things are connected inside the car, I would imagine that charging and discharging battery are two separate circuits and you cannot plug the car and have it use electricity from the charger and whatever the app tells you - success may be success in passing the message to the car, not turning the heating on which might be prevented from turning on whilst the car is charging/plugged in...

It works when the car is not plugged in?

Yes, that's correct. It seems to work when the car is not plugged in but not when it is plugged in.

You make a good point about the app - I should have expected that! So the car says, yes to the app but then for some reason can't pull from the charge cable. I might have to try kicking off a "max charge" from the Ohme and then turning it on and see if that works!

What I was hoping for that I can get up and turn A/C / seat heating on without having to go out to the car and unplug it which seems to defeat the object. Also - on a long journey I wouldn't want to waste 30 minutes of several KW draw from the battery considering the not exactly huge battery on the XP model (and yes... I did go in with my eyes open :))

Could it be because you didn't set the temperature high enough on the app, so it thought the car was already at temperature?
I don't think so - it was 10C inside the car and I set it to 23C. I know the temp control is a bit "funky" but I think it was a big enough difference ?

The was a bug where the car wouldn't pre-heat if plugged in and NOT charging. It got fixed in some updates I think, though I have never been too clear about this.

My car has struggled to reliably preheat with the new app 2.0, so we might have problems getting this to work this winter.

I have an Ohme Pro but not on IOG. I have not tried to precondition my Trophy with the Ohme as it has just been installed but after the car's first service the car pre-heated with the granny charger plugged in and not charging.

I haven't used it since last winter, by my Trophy with Ohme (and IOG) pre-heated OK the odd time I tried it. And it drew the power (couple of kW iirc) from the charger.

Still, try it again with the temperature set to max. 23 is just 18 in real money.

The bug where the car wouldn't pre-heat while plugged in but not charging was fixed for me by an update in April. Maybe your car hasn't had this?

Thanks all. My car has just come back from the dealer and should have all the latest updates according to them (they said they installed for pretty much every module) so my testing is after that but I don't think I check over and above infotainment and map versions unless someone has a sneaky way to do it!

I'll definitely try setting to max @Rolfe - that's a good shout.

@mg4mc - When it drew power from the charger, was it just plugged in and not charging please? Just checking?

I'm wondering whether I put it the Ohme on max charge, then initiate the heater and see what happens!

I'm not sure it needs to be max, but I reckon it does need to be noticeably different to what you normally have your HVAC set to. (So not just a degree or 2 different).

My own procedure is just to leave it set on max. (I don't normally have any need to cool the car.) If it's cold enough outside to warrant heating the car at all then you're not exactly going to feel stifled when you get in, and if you have passengers, by the time they've opened the door(s) and got in and closed them again, some of the heat has gone in any case.

I have had a lot of success set on max @Rolfe so my thanks for that and apologies for the delayed update. In the last week (just as it got cold!) the app has been terrible though and it refuses to connect.

I normally have to go in and scan the vehicle then it sorts itself out but this week it has refused most of the time. Is anyone else experiencing this (another "server down" SAIC type problem) or is it just me and are there any other suggestions about the app working more reliably please?

Tested just now and car connected ok. Have you tried the unlock/lock (using the key fob) option to 'waken' the car, if you get no response at first?

Hi and thanks for the suggestion,

I did try that yesterday but even that (and the scan, refresh) didn't work which is worse than normal. I'll go through the motions of refresh, scan, unlock, lock and see if that helps the next time.

Fingers crossed!

Where the car is located, if you turn it on does it show a decent 4G connection? (It might simply be a data connection issue between your car and MG's servers rather than the servers themselves having problems).

Several people including me have reported that they had to sit in the car and press the brake pedal for it to recover. I also had 2 occasions when this didn't work immediately, but it was working an hour later (it may only have needed a few minutes - I don't know).

It's a bit of a shame, but mine had not got in to the 'permanent' failure mode for about 3 months until a couple of days ago whilst I was charging. I had assumed that MG had tweaked their servers to sort the problem out, but it appears not.
