Every time I set regen in Adaptive mode, seems to me it's just constantly at level 2 without ever changing.

No matter if I'm on a highway or in traffic, it always feels exactly the same.

I was wondering what's your experience with it or if I'm doing something wrong here.

That’s rather strange. Mine is definitely more like 1 at motorway speeds and 3 when slowing down in congested areas or when descending steep hills.
Being mostly in the middle though is what I like about it as 2 is my preferred setting although like @Bricktop X PWR i just got used to 3 so I don’t have to mess with it.

My experience is, that from new I was happy with the default regen (level 3) and I have learned to drive with that as a default setting (which it is)
Also it's one less thing to switch off or adjust at start up.
When driving in sports mode regen setting 1 is nicer though as it gives a wider accelerator curve.

I do wish regen under braking could be switched off (or at least decreased) as it would help keeping the x-power’s battery at a lower temperature.

As I’m considering an x-power as an upgrade in a couple years.

Hmm... But if you prefer using OPD you are stuck with adaptive regen.
I do have a hard time understanding what it does differently compared to regular regen modes. It doesn't feel like regen 1. Nor 3. But most of all, I'm missing any adaptive qualities.

Does the number shown on the power meter always match the number you get for mode two too?

Agree. For me it seems automatic to just adjust the throttle more slowly when you want it to work like mode 1.

And you could keep the discs clean without waiting until you're on a safe bit of road.

Drive a bit on known and diverse roads with regen 2 and then move to Adaptive and have an eye on the regen numbers at same places as my experiences seem to differ a bit from yours (mine is a phase one Luxury/Trophy).

That said, these cars differ a bit in their behaviour depending on the software installed in the different modules, so nothing surprises me on behaviour.

I normally drive in a custom setting with everything in standard mode except steering and power which are set to heavy/sport and regen 3 (better steering feel around centre/straight forward and my right foot is capable to adjust speed and regen as needed)

While driving with ACC I prefer to use Adaptive when I have passengers as the car jerks less than compared with regen 3, and there are differences from regen 2 as it changes a bit depending on speed. What is not as nice is that since it is adaptive it does not give a predicatable regen when driving slow/stopping compared to regen 1, 2 or 3 which are constant.

As I state this my car just got the ACC module updated to 1km/1mile steps and no slow down in the curves, so I do not have enough experience with this update to say this is still what happens now after the update (which I love as the car now is so much better for me).

Actually the LFP battery pack in your SR MG4 likes it nice and hot for optimum performance, what temperatures are you seeing?

30 when driven hard for a while and if ambient temps are around 20C but normally it stays between 15 and 25C (ambient temperature has quite an impact on the baseline)
rapid charging has a greater impact on temps than driving hard.
Rapid charging can bring it up to 35C but it will progressively get colder as I drive.

Don’t worry, the ‘sweet spot’ for an LFP battery is above 35C that’s why you see these ‘high’ temperatures when rapid charging.

During ‘normal’ driving the battery is more or less cooled to ambient as the fluid runs through a heat exchanger. Driving hard is a neat trick to heat the battery quickly before rapid charging, especially during colder months.
