I understand the USB A socket is the one to use for Android Auto, and I have tried several now that have failed to work.

Can someone please provide a link for a lead that they can confirm works?

I'm going loopy!

I use this thing.

You would think it wouldn't make for a reliable cable with its double sided USB 2.0 type A plug, but so far it worked.

I have some issues with Android Auto; but I think it is due to my phone having a stroke as when I unplug it displays 1 image every 3 seconds until I reboot it.
So maybe your issues have been because of your phone rather than the cables.

Once my girlfriend sent me Discord messages while offline on a plane and when she landed dozens of messages were sent at once, my phone panicked, the Android Auto turned black (only in the Android Auto screen, the rest was fine) and even after I stopped and restarted my phone the car was still stuck with a black screen. I had to turn off the car (I didn't remember how to restart the infotainment) wait for the infotainment to timeout and only then it got unstuck from its case of black screen.

I use a cheap £1 one from Morrisons. You are not trying to use a power-only cable? Do you have a Bluetooth connection at the same time as you are trying AA? If there is no Bluetooth connection and I plug in the phone I get both AA and Bluetooth.

I've tried several. Some don't mention whether they are power-only and some say they are data cables too, but to date none have worked.
Bought one from Anker on Amazon. Works perfectly, no issues at all

That's one of the brands I bought! Could I trouble you for a link, please?

An aside on your question = I am pleased I got a couple of 15cm (6”) leads. They fit snugly through the phone pad hole and the one connected to my phone effectively eliminates any propensity for the phone to move around (or off) the pad.
