Taking my MG ZS EV almost 200 miles loaded with 2 adult sized kids and baggage for the week. I would appreciate recommendations for charging because ZappMap didn't look encouraging and the holidays booked now! Thank you in anticipation. P.S I'm a seasoned EV user who knows to lay off the aircon and accelerator!

Should be a lovely trip. These days there seem to be fast chargers dotted around reasonably well, ABRP shows various ones on the route in towns (Oswestry, Welshpool etc.) so I would just check some other sources. When you get to Carmarthen there's a Tesla open to all I believe.

Or if you want a leisurely lunch, stop somewhere with an AC charger. Most National Trust places have them though I guess not guaranteed it'll be free. There's one at the Elan Valley reservoirs, round the back of the shop.

Thank you

Have you put your route in ABRP or on the Electroverse app?
I got stuck with Electroverse but can try again. Unfamiliar with ABRP. Thanks for replying

I tried ABRP with the LR car and it suggested you could do the entire thing on one charge, starting from 100%, but you'd get in on only 9%. And I didn't tell it about your passengers or luggage! With my SR car it suggested a short charge at Welshpool, which seems like a good idea.

I still think it's a bit daft to lay off aircon. It doesn't make all that much difference and it's important to be comfortable. Just take on a bit more charge.

Now I'm wondering what the M6 has to do with anything. You are going to south-west Wales, right? Not Cumbria (Tebay, which is on the M6)?

Thanks, mine is short range so the Welshpool type suggestion sounds better. I do use air-conditioning and heat as needed!

My options included powering down the M6 before heading West. Longer but faster

Tenby in West Wales of course

Ah, I see now. I had erroneously looked at someone else's profile and saw SE LR there. You did give your car in your OP.

I would have thought that Shell Recharge site in Welshpool was the best-looking bet on your route.

We usually stop at landindrod wells, but there are plenty of chargers around Newtown and Welshpool. Good charging facilities at St Clears as well, ready for the trip back.

someone had already mentioned the Tesla superchargers in Carmarthen - I can confirm they work fine on my MG4. You do have to pay for parking there though, but it’s right next to the shopping centre so good facilities and Tesla chargers are relatively cheap

Visiting Newtown lat week from Ireland, I noticed one of the Tesco charge points was out of action - the Vauxhall. McDonalds down the road has a fast charger.
I was on trickle charge, so didn't need to pay at either

Love your optimism "powering down the M6" . I avoid it like the plague ?

Thank you for your replies. Used one of the 2 Instavolts at Newtown McDonald's, and had a superb charging experience at St Clears, Carmarthen.

Aberystwyth has a host of fast chargers - as well as access to a Tesla charging station - which now supports CCS charging. Haverfordwest - where I live - has had multiple charging stations installed within recent months - Morrisons; Fishguard Rd filling station; Premier Inn - McDonalds and a plethora of chargers installed elsewhere. ?

Happy to report that Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire were very well off for rapid and ultra chargers. Journey complete and car charging at home.

Tesla Superchargers have been CCS since 2019 when the Model 3 was launched. I presume you mean an Open to All station. :)
