Since a software update in Dec 2023 my pre-FL LR now charges at a noticeably slower rate than before. It's taken a while to evidence this as there are so many factors relating to charging speeds but recently, on three occasions, I've charged alongside identical model MG5s at multi charger motorway hubs (Ionity & Gridserve, 150kW+ capacity). On every occasion the other MG5 was pulling higher charge rates at higher states of charge than mine. Even on hot days after 2 hours of driving at low battery levels (25-30%) I've never got above about 60kW. On one occasion at Cobham M3 the other MG5 was drawing 52kW at 70% while I was getting 45kW at 50%. And recently at Donington M1 I was getting 60kW at 30% while the other was on 81kW at 40%.
A different MG garage to the one that did the last update ran a software check a couple of weeks ago and said everything is up to date and that as no fault was showing they wouldn't do anything.
Now that I've been able to confirm my suspicions I will book this back in with the garage that did the update in December. But I wondered if anyone here has had a similar experience.
The galling thing is that before the Dec 2023 update the car was charging really well - at Reading East Gridserve once I got 92kW at 37%!

The battery is constantly cooled to roughly ambient while you’re driving

MG doesn’t specify max charge rates, they merely state 0-80% in 40min

It could well be that in order to increase longevity of the HV battery the charging limits were reduced, but MG will say that it’s still within specs.

Is it possible that the cars you’re comparing with haven’t had this ‘upgrade’ yet, don’t think I ever saw above 70kW on our 1 year old FL?

Max charge rate for the MG5 is currently stated as 80kW. I don't expect to see this, hence the 92 was a one off surprise. But nothing more than 60 at 30% on a warm day seems well below spec.
I've not seen any comments suggesting MG have applied a reduced maximum charging limit in any software updates.

Rare, but my 18 month old FL occasionally gets to about 80 kW. I have even seen 82 on the charger screen but I'm not sure the car was getting all of that.

If you are interested in looking in detail at charge rates then the Gridserve phone app has a good feature. It gives a graph of the charging session while it is happening and in your charging history.

Where did you find this as the MG website shows below:

I hear you, but even at that it will still be within MGs new spec..

Do you know what update was done?

Don't think my pre FL ever sees more than 68kW at rapid chargers and tails away as the battery level rises... roughly 25 mins from 25 to 80 percent

My PFL record was 92.5 kW charging in Spain on Zunder, regularly reached 90 kW in the heat on long haul.

Used lots of Tesla chargers this summer without a display so relied on poor scale graph on app. Can remember walking away on one ramping up to 78 before I left, but didn't stay to see its peak charge rate post Tesla upgrade.

My record was 93kW charging solo on a bank of 6 Osprey chargers at Banbury.
