(iSmart - what a misnomer!)

This morning, I wanted to warm up the car a bit, and noticed that now, when you switch the HVAC on, you only get one message 'HVAC on, will switch off in 10 minutes' (paraphrased) - you used to get the first 'HVAC ON' message, then press OK, then wait for the '10 minutes' message to pop up, then press OK, then go to Seat warm-ups and go through the whole cycle again. All this would take 10 minutes, by which time...

So, it's a lot quicker now! Also, do I remember correctly that the HVAC would switch off when you opened the door? Now, it stays on, but the system still shuts down when you press the brake pedal... huh? Why?

I think the system reverts to what the settings were when leaving the car, when you sit down on the seat. My A/C sort of cycles quickly when I get in, and reverts to the temp set in the car, but it definitely stays on for me.

Also, and I don’t know if this is a feature or a fluke, but on a particularly hot day I tried to remotely run the HVAC a third time and got a message along the lines of “you have tried to send too many remotes controls to the car, unlock it with your key before you can send more remote controls”, anybody seen that before?

I think it's because the motor controller, which is off while pre-heating to save power and for safety, has large capacitors that need pre-charging. That means that the battery has to be disconnected briefly, and the HVAC compressor doesn't like being turned off for a short time and then turned on immediately. Something about compressing liquid, I think.

Is yours a model with a heat pump?

It also reverts to the car's settings when it enters ready mode (foot on brake), rather than running flat out for pre-heating or pre-cooling. Perhaps leave the heating running as you exit the car, if you're nit already doing that? Obviously, the heat will turn off when you lock the car, along with everything else.

My a/c sort of cycles quickly when I get in,
I'll admit that this doesn't agree with my theory. But maybe cooling is different than heating, as far as tolerance to interruption goes. Or maybe we get a slightly different HVAC system in Australia.
