I had a very similar experience. I begged them practically with tears in my eyes to apply R33 last April. I more or less set it to music and presented it as a song-and-dance act. I gave them about half a dozen problems (reported to them the previous year) which I knew R33 fixed.
They didn't do it. They let me go out to the car and find that out for myself. Then we had something of a stand-up fight, with a guy standing next to a poster declaring that happy customers were their reason for living, coming out with a string of implausible backside-covering excuses. Added to that a load of patronising drek about why did I want a flat undertray anyway and MG wouldn't do anything.
They booked me in again to have the update. I sat in their waiting room for about three hours, then the technician came out and said he had hit a problem (the system thought the car was being upgraded from R21, not R13) and he couldn't do it.
Fast forward some more and I made another fuss and they booked me in again for September, saying they wanted the car all day so they needed a day with a courtesy car available. Some time in the interim they sent me an email confessing that the undertray fix was now available and they'd do that at the same time.
So finally. In September. Nearly a year after the update was available. By that time the charging port lights had gone, and I had to be booked in again for this coming Friday to replace these. So they can bloody well fix the forgetful left star button while they're at it.
If all that goes to plan, they will never see me again. I will tour MG dealers if necessary, having a conversation about customer service, till I find one with the right attitude. I think Central Garage Galashiels is the first port of call.
