Our MG4 Essence LR makes a classic disc brake squeal during light low-speed application. Ok so it announces that somebody has returned home, but it is annoying. Even my first car, a Mazda 1500SS had "anti squeal springs" on the calipers and they never squealed. Has anybody else noticed this and is there a reliable fix?

I get this occasionally too and have to do a bit of hard braking when safe to do so from a highish speed. A couple of hard braking sessions on a quiet dual carriageway sorts it for me. It also clears up rust on the rear discs. There's a few threads on here about it and many experienced EV owners recommend this for the health of your brake discs ?

Mine does it too.

The brakes rarely get much use, unless you drive it and stop it hard. So they will build up with surface rust.

A prolonged 'emergency' stop at 80% braking should cure it, every once in a while.

Mine has this since new, only on reverse at very low speed maneuvers and light braking. Took it to the dealer, they cleaned the discs and pads, added anti squeal product, and it came back in about a week. It's a little annoying, but only while reversing out of my parking every morning lol

Just try and give them one, good, hard, long application each week.

I have never had a peep out of my brakes nearly 10000 miles in.

My ZS does this too. It's extremely loud at times. I found a tip on this forum: if your driveway has a suitable slope, use neutral instead of reverse gear. Amazingly, I find that this avoids 100% of the squeal 90% of the time, and the 10% when it does squeal, it's much quieter. To me, this indicates that it may be something electronic, or maybe in neutral there is some mechanical damping that doesn't happen in reverse "gear".

Perhaps worth a try.

I never get a squeal when in drive.
