MG4 Trophy ER
Kia ora (good health) folks,

First post here but have been learning lots and enjoying the forum since buying our red MG4 Essence 77 (Trophy ER) in November 2023.

Last week the Australasian iSmart app received a Google Play Store update to version 1.0.5. I understand UK/Europe is on version 2, so maybe this is familiar to you? The Charging Management screen has acquired a "Statistic" button, which then takes you to a separate screen with three graphs. Unfortunately none of them are populated with any data. I can't see any setting that enables data being transferred from the car, so maybe it's a software update yet to happen on the vehicle. Interested to know if others have any insight on this feature.

Nga mihi (thank you),
Kevin

I'm experiencing the same issue in South Australia with the MG4 Essence 64; my statistics are blank, and I would appreciate seeing how the battery performs on my daily commutes. The app version is 1.0.5.

App version 1.0.6 released today, and the Statistic option has been removed. Maybe something for a future release that escaped the app builds?

An HVAC button has been added to Remote Control which lets a temperature be set and sent to the car. Not tested it though.

Thank you! I've just updated it, and indeed, the static option has been removed. I suppose they've finally noticed. Hopefully, we'll receive the v2.02 update similar to the European version. I've managed to install it on my Android phone, but I'm unable to bind the car. ?

In the UK, when we updated from v1.x.x to v2.x.x we simply needed to login again using our original login details. (So if first registered using an email address, use that; if using a phone number, use that). No rebinding needed.

I wonder if the EU/UK and AU/NZ apps use slightly different protocols to talk to the respective MG servers? (Or different target IP addresses?) That could explain the error you're seeing.

I've uninstalled iSmart version 1.0.6 and kept version 2.0.2, but I'm still encountering the same error. I suspect it's because I'm in Australia and the app is designed for EU/UK use. I plan to hotspot from the car to check which carrier it's using, probably an Australian one. Another strategy I'm considering is connecting the car to my WiFi with a VPN set to London to see if that resolves the issue. As an IT professional, I'm really intrigued by this EV technology and eager to get it working. ?

Yes, the protocols are different between v1 and v2. You can't mix up Australian cars and European apps.

Australian cars are using Vodafone esims.

Thank you for the clarification. I managed to get the VPN working, pointing to London; the car was connected, and the eSIM was disabled. However, the QR code still displays the same message. It seems it's more complicated than just a VPN connection. My hacking career are over now. Let's hope for an update soon, I like version 2.0.2.

Australia and new Zealand cars are on completely different servers on mg side, that's why they have different apps on the store.

The protocol is different between the 2.0 app and mg, while between the car and mg it seems like it's the same.

I understand your point. It's clear now why it isn't working.
