Hello,

I sadly had a front end collision on my MG5 FL on Sunday.

I am with Admiral insurance whose preferred garage is Steer Automotive Group.

I have not heard of them so are trying to decide if I should go with them (get a courtesy car) or go with my dealer with no courtesy car.

I did a search on the forum and saw one positive comment on them but it was for a rear bumper. My concern around the front is the charging port is mounted here. While I do not think it is damaged its still a little new to some garages who may not had much experience with EVs.

I may be over thinking it but would like to hear peoples input on Steer and whether you would go with a dealer or insurance company garage.

Also wondering who would get parts and repair done in the shortest time. I have a road trip booked in Aug.

Many thanks as always.

Be careful, the insurer may charge you extra if you use a garage that they do not recommend.

I don't hold out much hope for you getting your car back in August if some of the experiences on here are anything to go by.

One chap had a relatively minor collision in January and still doesn't have his vehicle back.

Good Luck With it.

Any repairer listed as "preferred" by an insurance company will be there because they are cheap, not because they do quality work. They may be quite adequate if it's a simple job like a bumper replacement but you will see the difference with more complex repairs.

Thanks for the input.

I have confirm the only difference with the insurance company is if I use my own garage they will not give me a courtesy car.

My car is still perfectly drive able it was a low speed bump.

I took a drive to my dealer today who were great as always. They have taken pics and will give me a quote and a timeline tomorrow.

They said they are happy to give me a courtesy car while the work is done.

They have done a few jobs for me and have always been spot on with their quotes.

The only downside is they are always busy so sometimes take a little while for a slot.

Let’s see what they say tomorrow.

Fingers crossed.

Dealer came back with a quote which as has gone to the insurance who say it will take 3 - 5 days to get approved.

Dealer says currently looks like up to 30 days for some of the parts but he can confirm exact times once he gets the ok to place the order.

More to follow.

There's a few Steer branches round in the midlands and have been there for a while.

Regarding quality of work, i have no idea.

Yep will check if I end up using a courtesy car.

My car is perfectly drive able so it’s just a matter of whether I need one while the work is done.
