Still safe to travel to York next?

Question might even be a we bit off topic for this part of the forum, but here it goes.

Just getting bits and pieces on the Dutch news about the unrest in the UK. But I am starting to wonder whether it is still safe to visit York and the surrounding area with my son next week.

So far there are these protests taking place in one or two cities per day. Possibly some of the same people going from place to place, who are gradually being arrested.

I think it is a scary time for those in hotels booked for refugees especially, and perhaps non-white people who have businesses that might come under attack.

However, most of the country is perfectly normal most of the time.

If you see a large group of guys with tattoos and flags getting drunk together then I would get away from the area but otherwise the UK is not much different to usual.

If you look at the news this morning the expected riots didn't materialise and were replaced with ordinary citizens peaceably protesting against the rioters. In one city the anti-rioters outnumbered the rioters 2000 to 8 and those 8 had to be rescued by the police.

York is too nice for such bad things to happen.

The riots are extremely localised to a few specific streets of specific cities. The vast majority of the country is going about its business as normal.

The media tend to magnify events like this, because all we see are pictures of unrest, but it is actually extremely limited.

A friend from abroad asked if I was ok, and I had to explain that there's nothing at all going on where I am, I wouldn't even know about the riots if I didn't follow the headlines.
