Sudden braking when another car was approaching

Has anyone else had an issue with the MG4 suddenly braking when a car was coming in the opposite direction? I found it quite scary!

Yes and I posted dash cam footage of it on another thread here. Emergency stop in normal driving conditions with nothing untoward. I sent footage to MG UK who told me it was quite normal and my car was reacting to an oncoming car in the opposing lane, even though the car was being driven safely and well within the middle of the lane as was I. I was going round a very slight bend at time. I also posted MGs response for anyone to use should they ever be blamed for causing a rear end shunt by brake checking to show how dangerous this feature is and that MG have no intentions of modifying it.

Yes.

Been in multiple times to the dealer for this, had all the available updates as of August this year.

Last time in they said: "The recommended fix is to turn off AEB (automatic emergency braking). So now I either disable every drive or set to "Alert" only, so the car may react but can't apply the brakes.

I'm not impressed by this idea of a "fix" meaning I have to lengthen my preflight and turn off something that should help me. That said, I have had exactly the same problem on other makes (eg VW).

At the end of the day it's just software coded to respond to a set of sensor inputs

If camera sensor = this
and radar sensor = that
and steering angle = the other
and speed is greater than x
and brake force is less than y

Then activate safety system

That is why software is always "artificially" intelligent. It might be programmed well enough to simulate what you would consider intelligence but like a human will never be perfect in all scenarios.

Agreed - so they should let me turn it off permanently if I so choose.

I've found if you let the back of oncoming car clear the front of yours there's no phantom braking. Also if you have the brake pedal slightly depressed as you approach the obstacle the car knows you have seen the problem and doesn't activate the emergency braking.

I've had it kick in with no other traffic, just a parked car that was not actually on the road. It might be an unusual circumstance but I have added a picture to clarify; a driveway on a corner. The orange arrows denote my direction of travel within the limits of MS Paint. The Green line denotes the solid white line (approximate) and the red line the property boundary (no footpath). Now because its a driveway and has no footpath its perfectly legal and would cause no issue to park up to the edge of the property line, which on this day the owner of a van had done. Its a 30mph limit and I usually drop to 10-15mph to go around that corner. Slow down and just keep light power to maintain speed then accelerate out of it - standard stuff.

In this instance the EBA decided that I was going to hit the van and applied the brakes where the red hexagon is. I'm just glad nobody was behind me because it was a rather abrupt stop.

I had this problem when I first got my Trophy. I adjusted the Front Collision Assist to 'Moderate' retaining the 'Alert+AEB' and since then I do get alerts going towards/going around parked cars (narrow roads around here) but no braking. The settings is retained between drives.
